Looking for a shop to do suspension work on 1rst gen 4runner

Hi guys,

Unfortunately I'm flat out of time lately and would like to get my 89' 4Runner progress jump started. Looking for a shop that can rebuild the suspension for me and maybe do a long travel set up. Would like to keep the business local if possible (Bakersfield) but I'll drive her somewhere if I need to.

Mostly towing dirt bikes and some desert overland type stuff.

Any recommendations? I just want someone that knows what they're doing and has a good reputation since I really don't have time to research this as well as I'd like. I have a trip coming up in September that I'm not going to be ready for if I don't get some help.

i would suggest 4 wheel parts, or Shocker Motorsports ..4 wheel parts is having specials this saturday august 10th....

How much lift are you looking for? Long travel and ifs don't mix. Hit me up if you need some direction. Here is mine

Just a couple of inches. Mostly to soak up speed in the desert and very mild stuff like Tierra del Sol easy routes. Sorry about the confusion on the long travel bit, I meant a prerunning style long travel set up. I'm looking at the Total Chaos and Blazeland Long Travel set ups built for IFS trucks.

Tim over at 4Wheel Parts got a few basics replaced for me over the weekend while I was away working so the truck is now at least safe to drive around (pit/idler arms were in really bad bad shape and the shocks were basically just there for appearances sake). I haven't worked anything less than a 15 hours in months with only a day here and there every 10 or so off so I was happy just to stop the thing from floating all over the road and the tires from disintegrating. Thank you for the suggestion Rebecca, when I had talked to those guys several months ago they really hadn't been able to talk to me about anything but newer Tacomas but Tim knew right off the bat what I was talking about and is a Landcruiser guy. He was very helpful.

I just need to figure out whether I want to go nuts with the Total Chaos or dial it back with something like the Blazeland. I'm leaning more towards the Blazeland right now because I'm not positive I am ready for the truck to be my primary OHV. The Blazeland seems to be a good staged path that I can add coil overs etc if I get the bug. There's a guy out of Fresno or there abouts that runs that set up that does stuff like Bald Mountain all the time with no trouble at all and if I'm honest with myself, that type of thing is about as gnarly crawling as I'd likely ever get into. I'm just more likely to to be on a bike.

I'm at least on a stable suspension again and they were able to check things out for me without any hassle so I appreciate the fast help guys. Just need to commit to a lift strategy now and get to it.
