Well its really finally open!!!
There was about 30 loosely affiliated rigs that showed up for this run. Some Calmini rigs, some infectious Jeeps, Some JKO Jeeps, Some JK Adventure Jeeps, Some CI4x4 club, some Frazier Park jeeps, and some folks that just heard about it and wanted to go. There really wasn't much organization to the affair, folks just broke off into groups of a few jeeps and ran it at their own pace, which worked out really well.
As before, the trail was pretty easy. A stock Jeep that carefully picked their lines can make it with little trouble. Being that the trail has been closed for over a year, coupled with one of the wettest winter/springs in a long time, I expected the trail to be very rutted and overgrown. This was not the case; as a matter of fact, the trail looked very well traveled. With all of the rigs on the trail, this was definitely one of the dustiest runs I had been on in a while.
In order to satisfy the appetites of those that wanted play on something more challenging, most of the group headed over to the Hungry Valley 4x4 practice area to run the sluice box and rock climb.
The whole infectious crew went through the sluice box, while the JK Adventure crew was doing the rock climb. Brad ran up the rock climb, and after finally settling on a spotter and finding the right line, I also ran up it successfully. A guy in a Rubi that joined our group (sorry, forgot his name) also had a good run up it.
We had a great time and met a lot of new people.
Damage observed; Broken hydro steer line, overheating trans, bent Fox Shock
