Imo, super.duty 60 is equal or greater than kingpin 60s but basically equal..

Yep, you cant do any better than a Super Duty 60. High pinion (ground clearance of a D44), reverse rotation, excellent turn radius, big ass brakes, and unlimited cheaper aftermarket support. Only downside is the funky metric 8-lug bolt pattern.

And the unit bearing. This was Avery's biggest issue with them, then the bolt pattern. His opinion was the unit bearing was expensive, prone to failure, and no one else would have spare parts if I was lacking. The fix for that is to put in a spindle kit.... that would correct the electronics as well, but they are very expensive... more than the set of axles.

Anyone want to go look at the axles with me on Saturday??

I am missing something Alex.

What are you telling me?

To replace the unit bearings with spindles? To replace the hubs with flanges? Or are you thinking I am going to get 60s, then cut off the ends and put 30 outers?? Very confused!

DET??? Select DET??? I first assumed Detroit, but there isn't anything I have ever seen that was labeled Detroit and select-able... so assume you are getting at something else. And if there is this animal, why are you against select-able lockers?

My front is a fairly stout Rubicon d44: 3x.5" tubes, RCVs, Beefed Cs, Truss, 1350 yokes... I would guess it would hold these 40s with no issue. I believe, the only too weak a link is the R&P in my setup and there is no way to correct that.

Probably will get a set of super duty axles, but also looking hard at the 14 bolt axles. I got anally raped once on a Currie axle and will never deal with them again.... their competition all want too much (as they do). I could have done front and rear for less than that rear cost me and had WAY better axles. For the cost of the front I am getting ready to do, comparing with the cost from those big guys, I could do a complete front and rear (w/RCVs on both ends and detroits), new wheels and tires.

Sorry Brad couple jack & coke into the night tend to ramble, yes put a Rok Jok 60 in front with 1 ton unit bearings, and a detroit locker LIKE DD,44 30 spline is your weak link on 40's
select locker are ok but I prefer LOCKERS, nothing to fail, yes currie is price E. super duty are and option corp 14 too. HEAVY
looks like you have some thinking to do my friend! BEEF UP JEEP OR BUILD BUGGIE : :brows:
or YOTA :suprise:

It's all good man.... I am glad we have an explanation tho... otherwise, we'd have to have had you committed. lol

Detroits will go into the new axles for sure.

Rock Jock, for reasons mentioned, is not an option.

The Super Duty axles are looking good, seeing the fact that they are already setup with disc brakes and tone rings. The rear of the set is also a full floater. But you are right, these axles do not come without cost... the weight is an issue, but not sure the cost benefit of going aftermarket housings is worthwhile. I am liking what I am seeing with the 14 bolt as well, but the lack of disc brakes might be it's undoing for me. Retrofitting might make the 14 bolt more expensive than the 10.5 and I am not sure it is going to be THAT much stronger... with the added penalty of additional weight.

Yeah.... you hit the nail on the head... time for me to stop talking about it and start cutting shit up. Roger needs someone in the club to spank his ass.... we can't have a Yota at the top of the pile. :thefinger:

Sweet... can't wait to hit the rocks with you guys again... so much fun.

Hopefully, I'll have my front end settled soon... been having terrible weather and haven't been able to dig into it.

Also picked up a set of 40s.... but they will have to wait for a new front axle.

Could this be bad?

Short side lost drive..... I think I found the culprit (short side, outer, into CV).

Hopefully I'll have a replacement before next weekend.

Brad, with all of the people on pirate/JKO sending their RCVs back for repair, and now this, I think I will stay away from them and do Chromo shafts with CTM joints in the buggy. I have never seen that before - looks like bad metalurgy. How did the splines in the drive flange look?

Those look fine... these wore out in the CV Joint.

I was unawre of a lot of unhappy RCV customers, other than a recent thread I saw about the clicking... and now I know I am not the only one. But, that's been going on for over two years. Maybe the clicking was coming from this wear?

I just love the way they feel at lock and they have put up with a lot of my abuse.
