SHREDDER CANYON

Abendx and I met outside of Palmdale on Sunday to run the infamous Shredder Canyon. This trail is on private property and you must have the owner's permission to run on it. The area is patrolled by LA County Sheriff officers on dirt bikes. We came across two of these officers out there and they wrote us warnings because, although we knew who the owner is, we did not have written documentation from the owner. These guys need to write lots of tickets to keep their dirt-bike cop gigs going, so don't risk it. I will try to obtain written documentation so we can go back - because it is well worth it.

I will admit that I underestimated this place. GJ reported that he ran it on 33s with no lockers, and some of the vid I have seen didn't look too bad. I didn't even remove my doors or top because I expected something similar to Calico, but I was wrong. A fully locked jeep on 33" MTs can do the trail with a little winching through gatekeeper and some possible body damage, but most of the trail has bypasses for the sections that require more tire. The gem of this place isn't just the little trail, but all of the bonus side trails. There are enough lines and obstacles to keep any comp buggy happy for a day. These trails greatly favor narrow, short wheelbase vehicles (except for some of the bonus waterfalls).

One section of the trail, which I affectionately call "B-Rads crack", has been severely washed down and is now too narrow for a JK. Its a good 2 feet narrower than the Odessa squeeze, once you go in you can't back out, and its about 50 yards long with no side-exits. Abendx, being the craziest mofo on earth, decided to do it, and paid for his craziness with major body damage from front to back on both sides. Being about 4" wider than Abendx's rig, I decided to pussy-out on that one and take the bypass; if I ever tube out my JK, ill be back to this one. My bitch made me his bitch on that one.

The scenery is very nice and there is a lunch spot on a vista overlooking all of Antelope Valley. This trail is closer to us than Calico, about the same amount of time to get to as Ridgecrest or BC109, so it makes for an awesome day trip. Its all straight freeway miles to the trailhead, so no winding roads for those who trailer their rigs.

Ill post a vid soon, but for now enjoy some pics of "B-Rads Crack";

I posted a little vid of the after math of this crack in another thread.... my understanding is that the crack is where the trail gets it's name from, but who knows and I'll take a fucking insane spot to be named after me. :Thumb:

I'll also post some video and stills of DD.

looks like fun. Is the owner decent about letting people on his property?

Unfortunately he is not. Thats why the place is crawling with ticket hungry cops. When we get club insurance soon, I will attempt to get written permission for the club to wheel there. I believe he also wants to be paid to use his land, how much I don't know yet.
