swamp lake run

If you went on a run this is where to brag about it!

swamp lake run

Postby Uncle Cracker » August 5th, 2014, 6:21 am

we were off to a good start, it looked as if we would get out of town on time, and then:

just as i'm walking out of my office door, "dirt mover's" girl friend sends me a text>>

"rob is in the hospital, and won't be making the run" (rob is the only guy going, who knows where the trails are :? )

We are an adventurous group,, so we struck out on our own :hitfan:
first we leave "micky's" rig at a truckstop> death wobble
too crazy to carry on

i had copied a hand drawn map of the trails off the internet, which gave us the trail number
9S09, that just happened to be the trail that dirt mover sent us to camp on, so we figured
we had this.

nothing went smooth after that:

our first mistake friday morning>>> my buddy says he has all of the trails marked on his
GPS, so we follow IT,, rather than the signs posted for the trail heads :dontknow:
(fucking drunk people  )

after driving in circles for hours, i was getting impatient and just started running up trails, most of which were dead ends. lorax ends up hitting a rut going to fast and smashes his tie rod in to his oil pan>> he's out for the remainder of the weekend.
we finally get back to camp> eat, have cocktails, and calm down.
that afternoon, after speaking to some rangers, we found some FUN>>> the mirror lake trail. we only did a small portion of this trail since the only other rig still running, besides mine, was a stock toy pickup with one locker.
Saturday morning we got a late start :drunkbuds:
after breakfast, we ran into town for some much needed supplies :drinks:
then headed out to swamp> just me, and the stock toyota (4 guys and a dog)
we took the stock toy as far as we dare, left it on the side of the trail, stuck the dog up front between bruces feet, and put the other 2 guys on top of my ice chest, hanging on to my cage :yup: and off we went.
we must have gone 2 to 3 hundred more feet up the trail, when my new "short throw" shifter broke off just under the floor> stuck in 3rd.
we managed to get her turned around, and headed back to camp> drunk ourselves to sleep, woke up early, packed up and hauled ass.

it was all,, just bad timing>> there is some very good wheelin up there, great scenery.
I WILL BE GOING BACK

pics and vid to come

Those "flying blind" trips always end up like that, lol :lol3: . Still better than a day at work though :Thumb:

With so many mechanical issues, stock rigs, and rigs having problems before hitting the trail - its a DAMMMMM good thing you didn't run Swamp Lake as originally planned. You would have had to abandon some rigs back there in the rough spots, and do an ICE recovery later. Trust me, not doing Swamp was a blessing in disguise.

I hope Rob is OK. Any word on that?

I'll be ready for the next one. 12hrs in the ER and a day in ICU sucked ass.
Glad you got a taste of it, but it sucks that you had such bad luck.
Get your rigs fixed and we can reschedule a trip
