Just finished painting and installing a Kilby Gas Tank skid plate on my LJ. Thanks to chuckanut105 for the help! :drinks:

So far I am very happy with the result! The skid is made out of 3 pieces of 3/16" steel, laser cut, formed and welded together. This thing is a beast at 60lbs! It completely replaces the stock skid plate and has a few design changes from stock that give you: 1" more ground clearance, 3/4" more diff cover clearance, 3/4" more driver side shock clearance and more room for the track bar to cycle. Most gas tank skids on the market for TJ/LJ's just cover your stock skid causing you to loose ground clearance.

The install was very straight forward and easy. It took us about 3 hours....with BSing, dinner (thanks to Sara!) and beers. The instructions are very clear and easy to understand. It uses all of the factory mounting bolts and hardware making it a very straight forward install. I would highly recommend 2 people for this install due to the weight and awkwardness of having to drop the entire gas tank out of the Jeep. I was going to post a How To on this but due to installing it at night and the instructions being spot on I cant tell you anything you wont get from reading them.

Installation Notes:
Fits 1997-2002 TJ & 2005-2006 LJ models without a body lift.
2003 -2004 TJ & 2004 LJ models require either a 1” body lift or Kilby ½” spacer kit for installation.
100% bolt-on installation.
Note: 2005-‘06 TJ spacer requirement(s) have not yet been determined. No spacers were required on my install.

I will update this on how well it works or not after the Halloween run to Calico. I will also post pictures of how it looks from Calico. :yup:

And I also add dont loose the red clip for your electical conection on the fuel pump. That took 30min to find on its own. Other than that pretty easy.

Day light would have been nice too!!!!!
