Hey everyone! Im new to the jeep community. I just bought a 93 grand cherokee limited! ive started building it. ive started out by ordering a 4.5 inch rough country lift kit and a magnaflow muffler.. yes it has the 5.2 lol. i want your opinions on lockers for the front and back. also what brand of tires is the toughest and will give me the most grip all around? id love to have an infectious offroad windshield sticker!

Since your ZJ is a V8, you need a little more strength in your axles if you want to lock them.

REAR AXLE: If it has a D35, swap it out - don't sink any money into that crappy axle. If it has a D44, get an ARB or E-locker back there, with chromoly shafts. If you don't want the drawbacks and expense of locking the rear or don't plan on doing any extreme trails, a Detroit truetrac is a fantastic limited slip and works great in the rear on and off road.

FRONT AXLE: Unfortunately, you have V8 power and a heavy vehicle over that tiny little D30. The D30 is an ok little axle and holds up well off-road in light YJs and TJs, but you will need to build that sucker up (truss, C-gussets, chromoly axles) if you want to lock it up and wheel anything difficult.

TIRES: The Goodyear MTR does good on and offroad and runs true to size, but they have weak side-walls and frequent quality issues with being out-of-round. The BFG KM2s are great on and offroad, do exceptionally well in dry rocks, but they run very small for size. The Procomps run small, don't hook as well as some other tires, and for some reason cost more - but 4wheel parts really pushes them. The Maxxis trep radials suck on the street and trail. IROKs are da bomb on the trail, tough, and true to size, but suck ass on the street. Nitto Trailgraplers and TOYO MTs are fantastic on the trail and street, run true to size, have tough sidewalls, but are heavy. Its always a compromise, lol.
