New/old guy from Bakersfield

Hi,

I guess it's about time I logged in here, so I can meet some new folks and keep up with what's going on out there. My name is Richard, and I'm known as Goatman. I spend most of my web wheeing time on NAXJA.org and Pirate4x4. I've been wheeling for quite a long time, built a couple XJ's, and my own rock buggy, and I'm starting to build another XJ for a DD and for the local runs and camping runs in the Sierra's. It's always fun to meet new people, so I hope to get out to a day run or one of the meet and greets. I get the buggy out pretty regularly, and I sold my really built up XJ recently, so I'm building another one with 33's so I can do the local runs again.

Here's my old XJ, which you might have seen around some, and the buggy.

I need a job.

I put a little 2" lift on it for chasing at the Baja 1000, added a leaf to the back and ZJ V8 coils and a spacer to the front, and some good shocks. I really like how it handles for cheap. I already have a complete RE 4.5" lift, 33" MTR's on alloys, AJ rock rails, Currie steering, and locked D30/D44 and I just got in the 4.88 gears, plus a bunch of misc stuff like lights and steering brace. I like how it drives so much that I'm not anxious to get the lift and axles on it........but I want to go wheeling on the local stuff. I'll get it all on for Swamp Lake this summer for sure.

If I remember right, it's the XJ's that carry the parts and tools that get the rest of you off the trail. :thefinger:

Of course, my little XJ on 33's might need some help now and then. I've decided to not put a winch on it to keep the weight down. I keep telling myself I have a buggy for the hard stuff, keep the XJ simple............we'll see.

No, I'm not racing my buggy this year. Since I'm unemployed there is no money for competing. I'm working on the GenRight Team this year, and am the alternate driver.

And yes, I bought that rolled XJ. I have some parts I need to sell.

Still stock, other than a 2" lift. Drives pretty nice with the slightly stiffer springs and good shocks. I slapped the springs and shocks on it before going to Baja in Nov to chase for a Jeepspeed team in the Baja 1000.

Hey Richard you were mentioned in 4x4 Garage magazine in the TJ edition that is displayed until Feb. 23. page 92 in the weak links, strong fixes for Cherokees. Referring to the weak LCA mounts on the axle housing on the 30s.

Just thought i would let you know

Interesting. I wrote that quite a long time ago, looks like it's still floating around. Thanks.

Been gone for over two weeks, a week at King of the Hammers and than a week in the Florida Keys. Now I have projects to work on......

We had a good finish at KOH, 14th overall with 100 starters. 42 cars finished. It was a busy week, and we had a good time. I pre-ran about 60% of the course in my buggy and some of it in the race buggy. Mine is ready for a little TLC now, some loose steering parts.

Yeah, he rolled it on a flat road.

And, he's broken the front D44 a bunch of times already......with chromo axles and CTM's! But, he's having fun. He's building a D60 for the front, and he'll bring it up and I'm going to help him install it and put some coilovers on the front.
