Plan on all day, pack a lunch & a snack or two.
We're getting kind of a late start so I would expect us to finish the trail no earlier than 4:30pm.

another night run?

Postby casaintsfan » September 23rd, 2010, 4:05 am

F@€|<!!!!!!!
sorry guys I can't make it now, just found out I have to work Sunday night. There is no way I can get off work Saturday morning & wheel all day, sleep Saturday night, watch football on Sunday, then work Sunday night.

Sorry, I was really looking forward to this run.

Yep, good thinking Victor. That area is a Maze of uncharted roads. You need to go with someone who knows the layout on your first time or you will definately get lost. We will have to send ICE in to get you.

Yeah same thing i was thinking. Chris what GPS do you suggest that would do 3D topo mapping? Something that would help out in this type of situation.

I highly recommend the Garmin 60csx. Probably used by more jeepers than any other GPS. Does TOPO route tracking and everything. You can sometimes find them online for under $200. The Garmin Vista is a good unit too, just pricey and the 60csx does the same thing. Stay away from the vehicle mount GPS units, they are not very off-road savvy, and even the ones that accept TOPO maps won't do route tracking.

Honestly though, you would have to download someone else's tracks to be useful on trails like this. most of these trails are not on any official TOPO maps. You won't find Nightmare Gulch or Freeway Ridge on TOPO maps. Its still best to not go blindly to trails like this. I have the trail head to Nightmare Gulch at; 35 22.631 N 117 58.840 W . This area is easier to get lost in than most. Last Chance Canyon is on almost all TOPO maps - but finding Nightmare Gulch to complete the loop is going to be hard for you.

I think it might have BPH... fucking tranny needs a diaper so that it will stop leaking all over everything. Looks to me like the leak is coming from the bellhousing... but I am no expert. The dude at the dealership service department took a look and said the tranny was probably shot and they were booked up till Monday and they could replace it then.... now I have to wonder if they are going to claim big tires are at fault.
