Goatfest in Johnson Valley Nov 12-14

This is where to post runs that are going to happen!

Goatfest in Johnson Valley Nov 12-14

Postby Goatman » August 18th, 2010, 9:48 pm

I'd better get this posted up since we're well into planning trips for this fall. Goatfest is an annual run to Johnson Valley that I started a good number of years ago. It started as the Rockin' XJ Jamboree, but has come to be known simply as Goatfest. Everyone has always been welcome, and a good group from Bakersfield always goes. There are always a few organized runs on Sat, but people also just go run trails with their friends. We usually have a stocker run, so folks can see parts of Johnson Valley without having to risk any body damage. We also have a beginners run on either Lower Big Johnson or Clawhammer, as well as runs on the other Hammer Trails.

G&G Off Road will be providing dinner on Sat evening. This is a great way to become more familiar with JV, as there are usually plenty of people relatively new to JV as well as plenty of regulars. One of the reasons I started this run was to show that JV isn't just for the real hardcore folks, there's something there for everyone. It would be great if a bunch of Infectious Off Road folks came out.

ODE' to VICTOR

He showed up one day, in a bone-stock JK
to Calico to be pulled over rocks.
With an over-heating trany, he gave up the fanny
during campfire tales about cocks.

For lockers he lacks, but he likes the big racks
but not those that don't make you gay.
So he sharted his britches, upon Freeway Ridges
with 10 H.I.D.s lighting the way.

Chris, that's some funny shit!

BTW, this trip is for anyone, not just XJ's. It's a very loosely organized run, mostly hanging out and wheeling with friends. I know it's the same weekend as Panamint, but it's free and the wheeing is better. :Thumb:

This sounds strangely too close to finals, and I'm always in that boat that has to decide between going on trips, or improving the jeeps.

So far we have runs scheduled on Sat for Clawhammer, Sledgehammer, Wreaking Ball, and a stocker sightseeing run. Plus, we'll have a hardcore run for those with big axles and tires, we never know what we'll run until we're about ready to leave....maybe Sunbonnet and Hwy 19, 20, 21 and then head over and catch the group at the top of Wrecking Ball.

Clawhammer is a beginner run, fine on 33's. Sledgehammer is harder and 35's are recommended. Wrecking Ball is harder and requires 35's and a winch for the waterfall at the top. Body damage on these trails is possible but not likely with careful driving.

Main camp will be on Means Dry Lake, on Boone Rd about 3-4 miles north of Hwy 247. Dry camping only, no facilities.

Dinner Sat night is provided by G&G Off Road.

There are usually empty seats. But, you should run Wrecking Ball. :brows:

I would have liked to have made this run but my pup's in a dog show that weekend. We were up there a couple of weekends ago and the weather was perfect. I'll be up there again with some buddies the weekend of the 30th.

Richard, I think I may have met you a few years back in JV. We were all camped with Wohler's that weekend and I believe you had an XJ buggy.

Have fun on your run and good luck with your new shop.

I'll be going out Thurs evening after work. I know some are going on Wed. It looks like it will be a pretty big turnout......should be fun, as always.

If you're not familiar with JV, this is the run to go on. Lots of full body rigs on this run.

I'm not leading any, I need to be able to get back and get dinner started if a run ends up being a little late. In the buggies, sometimes we run a trail or two and then go catch up with one of the other runs. Since there's going to be a Clawhammer run and Wrecking Ball, which both end at the same place, we might go to the end of Wrecking Ball.
