Calico for New Years weekend

We're doing the annual New Years weekend Calico run, everyone is invited. We camp in the Calico campground, do a big run Sat with a group going up Doran and a group going up Odessa. Plus wheeling on Fri and Sun. There will be a nice dinner served on Sat night and a pretty damned good raffle. The Trailblazers do this trip each year as a fundraiser for all the land use donations they make throughout the year. In memory of our good friend Randy Billings, who passed away unexpectedly a couple weeks ago, I'll be leading a run Sat up Scrambler Canyon, which was named after his red Jeep Scrambler.

I know the impression is that the Trailblazers are a bunch of old guys, but you've never run Calico if you haven't run it the Trailblazers way. Doran Gatekeeper isn't the only hardcore wheeling in Calico.

There are a group of full hookup spots in the circle around the bathrooms and campfire area that are reserved for this event, but they have to release the ones that won't be used by next Tues. Let me know if you want to go and want one of those spots and I'll pass the word along.

I can only make it for the day on Saturday Richard, But ill be there Saturday morning to run with you :Thumb: .

We just mess around with the "trailblazers are a bunch of geezers" comments, just because we are so jeleous of your bad-azz buggys! We have buggy envy, thats all :lol3: . The Trailblazers are a great group of guys and gals, and I always have a great time wheeling with you guys.

I cant make it, But I would like to make a donation to Randy's family. Is there a place I could do that?

I will be camping and wheeling at Ponderosa above camp nelson and calif hot springs.

Or maybe I could buy a dinner ticket and give it to somebody.

I might be in as well... but same issue. No camper and tenting it might not work for my girl in overnight temps.

Looks like there's going to be a pretty decent raffle Sat night. Attendance looks down this year for whatever reason, better chance in the raffle.

Winch, 35" tires, etc.

I'll be going over Thurs after work, and will wheel Fri, Sat, and Sun. Anyone else going to be there Fri?

I think Fri we'll run Doran the Trailblazers way (lot's of hard optional stuff) and then play on another canyon we always do that's above Odessa, then come down Odessa. Sat I'm leading a run on Scrambler Canyon in memory of Randy Billings, our good friend and wheeling buddy who has a red Scrambler that the trail was named after, Randy passed away unexpectedly last month.

Runs will leave from the Calico campground area, 8:30-9:00ish.

Assuming the weather holds up, I think we will be coming Friday and staying over till Saturday... maybe spending Saturday night as well.

Does the ghost town do any fireworks or anything like that for the New Year?

So who is in? The rain looks like it is not in the forecast any longer :Thumb: and the temps are upper 40s during the daytime and mid 20s at night. I might forgo camping and get a motel room in town to advert the cold in a tent.
