Monday August 8th Gorman newb run

For those who like to help. My newb buddy from work wants to take out his new FJ. Pointers and two cents welcome. I was thinking a pot luck lunch if we got enough people. A sign up roster for that will follow if it sounds good. :Thumb:

Tell him not to flex it (with what little flex they have). Those things tend to start falling apart when you do that. The FJ cruisers are not like the awesome FJs of the past, about as capable in the rocks as a scion. But Dale really kicks ass in the dunes with his, and this seems to be where they really shine with that powerful engine. Toyata also has good customer service, and although a Jeep is much more capable off-road, Chrysler service is the worst. There have been several FJ cruisers that wanted to run with us, but turned away when we get in the rocks. If it will never see anything more than fire roads and the occational trip to the dunes, I would get the FJ. If he wants to build it into a capable off-roader he picked the wrong platform IMO. He will have a very difficult time on trails that we consider to be easy.

Also, make sure you tell him that its not too late to trade it in for a Jeep :stirPot: :lol3:

I told him about jeep from the start. He is wanting to take it to Richard and build it. Maybe one he sees what jeep can do he will change his mind.

Sweet. Unless something comes up, I am there. I think GJ was interested as well.

Sounds good... just remind me prior to us meeting up... I will be returning from havasu the night before, so I'll need a good reminder :)

I'm in for something if we decide to go this route! If you're bringing asada, maybe some homemade refried beans and some cold beer to go along with it?

I'll PM you my number.

I don't drink but the beans sound good. :) I am sure my buddy will bring some coronas along though. I will have them do rice and drinks then.

Sounds good... if I knew I was bringing the cheese earlier, I could have tried to score some breast milk from Pete and gang and made my own chee-cheese.

Don't try and cover this one up.... Pete's been forwarding me the text messages you have been sending him at all hours of the night. You know... the ones begging for more of that milk. :lol3: :lol3:

Yes. Don't know.... OP hasn't put in meetup time?

I'd personally like to be home before rush hour.... if at all possible. So for me, the earlier the better.

Not sure where you live Ryan... but I'd guess the Coffee Bean on Victoria across from Trader Joe's would be a decent spot to meet.

I live across the street from Oxnard HS (Gonzales/Victoria) so anywhere is pretty good for me.

Phillip sent me a txt the other day mentioning 8am at the gas station at the bottom of the hill... so that means we need to be leaving VTA around ~630am? Does that sound right...

The guy with the FJ may not be able to make it out till noon but I still want to go. If it would be easier for you to go straight there if you live south then I will just meet you at the training site since it seems I am the only one from bako going. But if not then 8 at petro

Question.... if your buddy isn't coming, would you rather do BC109?

I have never been there so I would have to follow. If you think 31's and a front locker can make it I am down.

Plenty to do it.... your run, so I should stay out of it. Just tossing in an option. :)

You guys are a bit more experienced and built up. I don't like being that guy who is pulled up the mountain. I made freeway ridge no problem when gatekeeper was still there. Where is BC109 compared to Gorman?
