Swamp Lake Trail July 27-29

Swamp Lake Trail trip is going to be on July 27-29. This trail is in the Shaver Lake area, and is sort of a short version of the Dusy trail. The trail is 14 miles long (by comparison, the Rubicon is 9 mi), and we run about halfway and camp Fri and Sat night at Grouse Lake at 9100' elevation. The trail is moderately challenging (a few optional hard spots) with great scenery and a pretty nice camp spot right next to the lake. This is a nice trip because we chill for a couple days in camp, there's plenty of good wheeling on Fri and Sun, great Sierra scenery, and it's 3 hours from Bakersfield.

My grandsons caught their first ever fish there. If you're willing to take a 20 minute hike to a small lake, one time when a couple guys took fishing poles they hooked a fish with every cast. 'Lil Doris Lake is pretty spectacular even if you don't fish, well worth the short hike.

Was originally thinking Aug 3-5, but my grandsons can't go that weekend now because of a music camp they enrolled in. The other weekend we could do it, which is OK with me, is the middle of Aug, the same weekend as the IOR Rubicon trip. I'm not going on the Rubicon, but I thought it best to not plan a trip the same weekend. If the folks who want to go to Swamp aren't going to the 'Con, I don't care which weekend we go. I can't go the 1st and 2nd weekend of Aug, any other time I could go.

I have an 87 AW4 out of my XJ that was rebuilt in 04 (probably has about 2000 miles on it). Not sure if you are looking for the early or late type. Just needs a NSS. I pulled it when my Tcase bombed and my replacement t-case was the newer style and came with a trans.

Bringing this back to the top. If you're interested in a nice long weekend camping trip to the Sierra's and can't make the 'Con trip, or wonder if your vehicle is capable to run the 'Con, then join us for Swamp Lake. This trail is every bit as scenic, slightly longer, a little easier, and much closer. You can drive up Thurs after work, and have a 3 hour drive home Sun after finishing the trail.

I'll post up directions to where we camp Thurs night, and start the trail, when we get a little closer. The agenda is camp at Dinky Creek Thurs night, hit the trail Fri morning, camp at the lake (9100' elevation) Fri and Sat night, finish the trail and drive home on Sun.
