So Rebecca was kind enough to alert to me to a hardtop on craigslist for an unreal price... really it was super cheap.
Called guy, said came off a cj-7, i own a yj...
did some research found out only difference between cj and yj hardtop is rear lift gate operation. If the yj has stock tire carrier the opening of rear gate is a pain. Well I have a swing out carrier so no worries there.
next thing to consider is the front doors. the yj softtop doors have square corners, while cj/jy/tj hardtop doors have rounded corners. so how do i get doors....hmm...
did more research found that i could either use yj/cj hard doors with the hard top or....tj soft top half doors on the yj bottoms.
the writeups on installing tj half door uppers on a yj door said the rear retaining pin had to be cut and rewelded 1/2" in and that the curves of frame were not exact.
so i bought the hardtop, sold my old soft top, and ordered tj upper soft doors.
hard top bolt holes all lined up on yj, perfect.
the tj soft doors came in. first thing i did was cut rear retaiining pin out.
placed them on doors and started adjusting.
Here is the kicker...it is not a simple affair to bend the frames to make them work. Oh i gave it all the effort i had, then one of the frames broke...
Out came the welder then the torch...
lessong learned is this. When attempting this combination of cj top, yj halfdoors, and tj top doors.
remove the door skin from the tj window first, then use a torch to heat/bend the frame to match the door opening.
oh and pics coming, gimme a few to get it out of phone
