Torque Converter....
Well saturday we went up Rancharia road with Chris, Henry, and Jason. Jeep was doing great all morning. We came to a stopping point and turned around, Rebecca said she smelt something burning, i didn't hardly smell anything. Then Henry started to lay on the horn when i pulled forward some.
Found trans fluid pouring out of my jeep. Crawled in the snow and found it was coming from the front pump seal.
Drove it a 1/4 mile farther till it stopped shifting. Shut it off. Then Chris came through in a big way and towed my jeep by strap the remaining 22miles or so out of the mountains. It was a crazy pull through the snow and put a serious strain on Chris' jeep and im sure his nerves at times. Can't thank him enough for that pull out of the woods.
Got a tow from chevron to the house. Pulled the transmission today, found the cause of the front pump seal failure. The torque converter is cracked on the pump drive on both sides of slots. It appears the last back/forth loading I had done while turning around on Rancharia had pushed it past its limit. It may have been cracking before, the wear marks on the torque converter shows that it has been cracked/wearing for a while. The front pump and trans itself are fine. The stator shaft and main shaft are in good shape, the front pump rotates as it should and the torque converter bushing is ok.
Now i have to wait a couple days to get a torque converter in, then put the jeep back together...
Big thanks again to Chris for getting us out of there.
