Locker Issues

So on the drive home from JV I had some noise in the front diff. There was about a quarter turn of pinion play. I was almost certain a bearing went out, but when I opened it up today I found that my locker was the culprit, but even then I can't find anything wrong with that. I tore the detoit apart and there seemed to be no problems with it. No unexpected wear marks or burrs. Everything seemed very tight. I haven't put it back together, but have any of you had problems with detroits before having too much play in them?
