Everyone knows how far the lower shock mount is on the XJ rear diff, here is my question, when I weld on new shock mounts that bring the bottom of the shock about even with the diff tube, which is about 2.5 inches, do I lose travel or gain travel?

I don't have a Jeep, but wouldn't you gain travel when using the same shock since you'll have to collapse it to fit in the new mount, assuming it's now 2.5" higher?

If I am understanding you correctly... You will gain. Be careful to test the compression out to make sure you aren't now bottoming out your shock which will ruin it.

thanks guys, I will check the compression of the shock, might have to raise the rear a little :yup: it is a little lower in the rear right now

More droop, might have to add longer bump stops to keep the shock from bottoming out.

and make sure that your brake lines and dif breather tube are up to the task. An extra 2.5" is a lot of droop.

Technically, you don't gain travel if your shock is your limiter........you loose up travel and gain down travel. How it ends up depends on the length of your shocks and the length of your bump stops. Up travel is as important as down travel. I'd unbolt the bottom of the rear shocks, come by here and flex it out on the big tires, then hold the bottoms of the shocks in the position you want to do and see if it works with those shocks. Pretty simple to know for sure rather than guessing. Also, you'll see what your bump stops are doing, and if a slight change in the shock mount position or bump stop position will allow it to work with the existing shocks.

That's a kick ass offer Harry, I'd take Richard up on that in a second.

B-Rad, I was actually going to do that, Richard told us a while back we could swing by and test our flex, again thanks Richard, I'll be by soon :salute:
