I'm not sure if the is the right place to post this, but can anyone list the ideal set of recovery gear?

I have the following so far:

An 8000 Winch with synthetic line
A 12' soft sling, rated at about 16000 lbs
A few extra shackles, excluding the ones on my bumpers
A tree saver (2" strap with soft eyes)

I know I need a snatch block, but anything else I'm missing?

Your set up pretty good dude. You should come up to big bear with us and maybe you get to use it. The one thing I would get a longer strap I like 20' just gives you more options. Im sure DD will chime in on this too.

Toilet Paper is a VERY important one. I lost a sock once!!! My grandfather always told me two important things about the outdoors
1) Always pack to spend the nite you never know.
2) 1 is none and 2 is one. Always have a back up.

Also you dont need to go out and buy everything at once.

Very good advice!

Yes... I should have mentioned it's not necessary to have this now, but as a goal to work towards. We will never mind helping you if you need it.... tools, parts, whatever. But it is always nice to be as self sufficient as possible and only require others knowledge and hands.

You are already on your way... a winch is a nice thing to have, but personally, the next big upgrade I'd save for would be gears and lockers.

That's exactly where I'm headed. I know the ARB Air lockers are pretty popular, but has anyone used electronic lockers? I think the Rubicon comes with these and my mechanic mentioned them also. Any pros/cons??

Hmm... what kind of wheeling do you envision yourself doing?

I like Detroit's. The ARB, Ox, elockers are all okay... I just like Detroit's.

Oh jesus not this conversation again. All im gonna say is I haven't seen a single OX locker work with out cable issues but when they work they are awesome. ARBs are awesome they work fast and long as you have air. Elockers bout the same as ARBs take a little longer to engage and disengage. Detroit are fool proof full time all the time the old ones would pop and make all sorts of noise the new ones are quite and you will only notice them on the street when you are on/in something slick ie...rain and snow. Look around on the different format there are a lot of opinions on what's better. It all breaks down to what you want to do where you want to do it and how much you want to spend. Just my .02
