when im running at a fairly high rpm or just going down hill my 2nd gear will slip out. not a good thing when your wheeling. first time it happened it scared the crap out of me. any ideas on how to fix this?

synchros are done. the 1-2 hot rod shift causes that fast. rebuild ... or do like myself and lots of VW guys do and put a bungee to something behind you and when your holding second for a while put the bungee on the shifter lol

Lol! Bungee. Time to do the aw4 swap or get an ax15 for it

I've got a non syncro'ed NP435 and I use the bungee trick while its in first for a while

And I don't mean a bungee lol.

AW4 is the automatic jeep trans, and ax15 is the standard. If you've got a pretty decent shop full of tools you could rebuild it, but i'm not gonna say it's easy. You wanna have a full day to devote to it so you can rebuild it all in one sitting, and keep track of every single little part. Normal rebuild kits will come with syncros, bearings and seals. Just replace everything the kit gives you that way there's not a problem with something else on down the road. Not something to cut corners on.
