Cummins 12v p pump strictly as a tow rig and back up vehical repairs not that bad mods are cheep. Loud but reliable and buy a affordable comfortable car for everyday commuter. Firing up a diesel to drive 2 miles daily not really good diesel like to run hot. Tundra good option. How bout ford eco tech twin turbo V6. In the end what ever your budget allows you to do. :Thumb:

Just curious... Did you ever decide on a vehicle? Or test drive one to give some thoughts? I've been trying to decide on one for a while now..

Here are a few friends that tow out..

1 buddy tows with his 08 tundra, does great and loves it but we can't even make it to Pismo from the valley without him stopping for gas.

Another tows with an 08 4.7L ram, I feel this would leave me wanting more, he does ok with bed loaded with camping gear and fire wood, 2 kids and his gf pulling his runner.

I personally have towed my pickup with my buddies ecoboost f150 and that thing is bitchin!! Tons of power with plenty to spare. But at 50k... its not in everyone's budget.

I've also towed with a 96 sierra with an 8.1l swap. That also had plenty of power but damn that thing was super thirsty!!! But man it pulled nice.

I have also towed my old k5 with a 04 5.4l expedition to Pismo. It towed pretty good until the hills came but even then... not bad at all considering the load behind it.

I personally was thinking with more budget in mind and was looking at chevy 2500hd with a 6.0l which I hear like to drink too but this is only for towing (I have a company work van I take home so no biggie) or a mid to late 2000's 5.4l f150 I hear they pull good for what I need and are decently priced.

Just my 2 cents.

I went with a V10 Excursions. Holds 8 people and 44 gallons of gas, Cheaper than a Superduty and you can sleep in the back. Only loses .10 mpg when towing.
They also came with 7.3 and 6.0 diesels

Yep, those V10s are bulletproof high-mileage engines, but they LOVE to drink a lot of fuel.

Becca....

A safe tow will be in a 3/4 or larger truck. Think inertia while you ponder why.

I sometimes dream about having bought a diesel, but a run of the numbers and it'd have taken me nearly 35 years (~15k/year) to make up the difference. IDK.... but I could replace that gas motor a few times, get the 35 years out of the truck, and be ahead of that financial game.

I've owned Chevy and Ford trucks.... I prefer the Ford because it is less "car" like, but that may be appealing to you? Never owned a Dodge, so no opinion other than Chrysler has some extremely poor customer relations.

And one last thing I can put in there.... TARP.

Yea buying a truck is put on hold right now..... I guess I just want to wait and find the best deal or figure out what I really want to buy for my daily driver....
