Im getting conflicting info on this trail I've read and heard it fairly tough and takes about 5 hours to complete but I have also read its only 3mi WTF anyway Im looking for something around here that is more challenging than freeway ridge.

Miller Jeep Trail itself is only about 3 miles, but you start out on lockwood valley trail, then go to yellow jacket and then onto MJT. It's got some enjoyable parts to it. It's definately something different compared to freeway, but I wouldn't call it any harder. Perhaps now that the gatekeeper of freeway has been destroyed, but it's not all that hard.

Dirt trail. Not much of anything. Boring and dusty if you ask me. Much better spot in that same area is BC109... although it needs a big rain to fuck it back up.... there is still some fun to be had there. Gorman play area is okay... but not really enough to make the drive worth it.

Thats actually one of the plus sides to going through miller. you end up right at the gorman jeep area at the end of your trip so if you didn't break anything on the trail, you could get all your breakage in before days end.

That's sucks the book I have made it sound like it was hard. said Shit like you need lockers and large tires and don't drive alone, o well I'm glad I didn't wasit a day going up there. What do ya all think about Sherman?

sherman is easier than all of them... that's a place where you don't need to waste your time. Go to miller. The next time I know I have a weekend off I'll make up a run to miller. I like it.

I'm down let me know. My rig will be getting completely done up here in a couple of weeks so i won't be able togo for part of this month... What are some of the challenging trails closer to Bakersfield, a step up from freeway.

Miller is a waste of time IMO, especially since the forest service removed "the squeeze". Sherman even has more rocks than Miller. Miller is just a super dusty fire road with one optional obstacle before you get to the top. And after the fires a few years ago, the scenery really sucks too. At least Sherman is scenic, has great creek fishing in the area, and the weather will be much cooler. I honestly think that freeway ridge is better than both of those trails from a technical standpoint, even with gatekeeper destroyed. If Freeway is getting boring for you, run it with Josh/Roger/ or me and we will show you some of the optional stuff.

Nightmare Gulch / Last Chance Canyon is very scenic, but also are very easy trails. I like to explore old mines and historical places, so I still love this area even though it gets 100000 degrees in the summer.

I think that BC109 is a great day run, and halfway point for the Bako and Oxnard clans to meet. It sure is better/more scenic than the other local trails and definitely has more technical options than the others. But realistically, from Bako, 1/2 hour more of driving will have you at Calico.

If looking for a little more than a day run and a good area to escape the heat, the Shaver Lake area trails are hard to beat.

Be mindful that 90% of the trails out there are easy if you bypass all of the optional obstacles - even the Rubicon in some years is like that. The problem with Miller is that it lacks bonus obstacles, for the exception of 1 rocky outcropping as you approach the top. So its not really what trails you run, its who you follow!!

thanks DD... good shit I like checking out old buildings/mines/ghost towns as well. Im not really board with freeway Its a great trail but its just the only "trail" I have done. Ive ran it many times, day and night, snowed, rained out etc.. I need something to get more experience before I run the con next month..
