There I was, cruising along the back side of Lake Isabella (or Lake Isapuddle, in its current state) and I saw a couple of stranded SUV's down on the lake bed. Neither of them was lifted, and I suspected they may be 2wd. Being the good Samaritan that I usually try to be, I decided to drive down there and help them out. Turns out, 1 of the SUV's is a newer Dodge Durango 4x4 with Hemi and is owned by the Lake Patrol, who had stopped to help an 80's era Ford Bronco II.
I got out, asked if they needed a hand, and of course they said yes. By the time we introduced ourselves, evaluated out the situation and made a plan, my truck had sunk into the mud, without me even being in it and moving it. As soon as I hopped in and put it in 4Lo, it sank to the bumper. My truck is a 2006 Ram 4x4 Diesel with 3" leveling kit and 35's, and it was stuck like chuck.
The two Rangers and I were able to free the Bronco II with some pushing and then used it to try to extract both of our rigs, but it was not heavy enough and did not have functioning 4x4. It ended up sinking in again and the Rangers had to call a tow truck from Kernville. The guy came out and parked 100 feet up toward the road and winched the three of our vehicles out. It cost me 100 bucks and it got dark before I could take my boys shooting, which was the original plan. The situation sucked, but the Rangers were cool, the old fisherman who was originally stuck was a nice guy and I am still glad I stopped to help, because someday I'll be the one stuck like chuck and need a hand.

I only snapped one pic, but I'll see if I can get some more from the Rangers later.

Zak, I'm sorry to hear about your exciting trip but what a good story. If it ever happens again, give me a call and we will get you out.

Helped a guy out over by Wofford heights a couple months ago when the water was still up to the canal. Hed gotten down there in a little S10 two wheel drive. We managed to get him moving just by pushing and he got on it and stayed on it till he was out. Fortunately he was just buried in the sand and not in the mud.
