Inner axle seal.

So.... I blew out my inner seal when I replaced my shafts last week after I replaced the ball joints.

Reading about changing the inner seal makes it look easy (I've never done this before), but my vagina is feeling sandy and I am worried about two things... the plunger on the JK locker and the carrier shims.

Anyone experienced in this and want to supervise me getting greasy? Tri-tip and beer are payment and I'll put in a good word with Josh, Victor, and Trevor (you never know.... one of them might make you happy!).

the biggest thing that i can remember is that you have to measure and mark the shims. This is why i like the 9in un-bolt and pull plus the added strength of that 3rd bearing

It isn't a big deal. Just pull out the carrier and put everything back just like you removed it. No measuring or marking required. You also want to put your caps back on the same as they came off. It makes it easier if you mark your caps.

Funny.... "no marking or meassuring," but.... "it makes it easier if you mark your caps." :thefinger:  :Thumb:

After doing it.... I advise to mark it all (cap bolts, caps, shims, and races)

Pete came over yesterday and we spent half the day in the driveway.... most of the time spent trying to perfect 10 dollars of nuts and bolts into a seal insertion tool (I am lucky I bought two seals rather than one). Other than this tool I made, the hard part was pulling the carrier... as we didn't know the trick involved (pry from above and below) to get it out we scratched our heads a lot until I got a hold of a friend that gave the good advice.

Pete made a great install bitch and we got it done before dark and the incoming rain storm. :Thumb: :wings:
