Rock Sliders

Ok here is the question.......

Looking into rock sliders for the new jk.. the jeep has been wheeled by the OG owner, not sure to what extreme but it does has signs of wheeling.. it has the stock sliders on at this time. (Long arm w/ 37's)
My question is just how important is it to get aftermarket sliders? does anyone run the stockers that has used / needed them and how much damage (if any) was caused.

Doing the Rubicon next month and have a boat load of stuff to buy before the trip and dont want to over look this but also dont want to add $500-600 to my cost if its not needed.

I put the pure jeep sliders on mine but the offroad evo ones are really nice to. I just didnt trust the stock sliders.

When you took your stock sliders off how did they stand next to the ones you replaced them with. Was it paper thin or comparable to aftermarket?

The stock ones are pretty weak compared to my aftermarket ones. The pure jeep ones are 1/4 plate all the way to the frame. I have slid them off alot of rocks and there solid

That is great news james..... I have seen you do some sliding a few times. Thanks for saving me some cash'ola. Not saying I won't upgrade at some point but just don't have to do it right NOW!!!!!!

Depends on the wheeling you do..... for some people like MFD, the stock ones would fold up.

Personally.... the Pure Jeep ones are junk... not anything wrong with the nerf bars themselves, but.... tub mounted items will bring on the suck very quickly. Tub mounted equals body damage. Kinda ironic when you think about it, no?

My suggestion would be to go frame mounted and not look back... sure you loose clearance and looks... but you get armor and I think that is what you are trying to buy. :Thumb:

Now... can the Con be done with your stock sliders? YES! Of course. I have run the Con when it was difficult one year.... every other time I have been, it's been doable in a stock Rubicon model.... the work that they are completing this year, we should see the trail doable in a 2wd vehicle before too long (saw the six foot tall piles of cement and hundreds of bars of rebar that was sitting at the top awaiting that week's work crew on Cadillac, saw the "keep out" signs at Soup Bowl (I now know!! lol), and it's my understanding that they have permanently blocked off Thousand Dollar Hill and are attempting to pave the Box). There are still plenty of lines left that you could work your sliders and watch them fail... so just watch your lines and you should be fine up there. Have fun, take pics, and report back!!

Thanks for the info. When I go with sliders I will go with the frame mounted for sure. I guess everyone that gives to the friends of the rubicon needs to know that the money that's givin is going to make the trail a horse and buggy trail again.... Thanks again.

GET FRAME MOUNTED!!!!

I have seen all of the tub mounted sliders fail when abused on a JK. Now my definition of abused may be different than some, but my Purejeep sliders are doing body damage to my JK after a few years of use. I have seen half a dozen Poison Spyder sliders do severe body damage to the point where doors can't be used. I have also seen countless stock Rubi sliders do body damage, especially on the long 4-doors. The sheet metal on JKs is paper thin so you want to attach to the frame rather than the tub. Its worth it, even though you WILL lose some clearance. The EVO sliders are about as tough as they come.

And Abendx is right on about the Rubicon. I would not hesitate to take a stock Rubicon on it now. The trail peaked in difficulty during the 2010 season, then efforts began to make the trail easy which continue to this very day. Most of the good optional stuff is closed off now, boulders removed on big sluice, gatekeeper removed, cobblestone paving practically all the way to the slabs, and now major modifications being made to Cadillac Hill. You will have NO PROBLEMS with what you have and long as you go easy on the skinny pedal.

I have used mine and no tub damage.(pure jeep sliders). I guess its just a personal preference .although I have seen brads evo sliders(frame mounted) in action and they do hold up really well

Thanks for the info. I looked at both the EVO and pure jeep among others and the EVO are fair priced and look strong. I do like the frame mounted because of the fact I'm buying them to do a job.

I run the EVO and can vouch that they hold up to my mall crawl..... whatever that's worth.

I have the stockers and they have held up to some hard hits but have done some damage to the fenders due to the fact to they are tube mounted. Look at ace engineering they have some good stuff from what ive heard and good prices.

I have some tub mounted ones... they work great... EXCEPT for the fact that one moderate trail run in Big Bear, bent the passenger side tub and now the rock rail rubs on the door (thank God I can still open the door).

So, I would recommend FRAME MOUNTED.
