Desperately need help..........

Desperately need help..........

Postby yayaisland » June 6th, 2012, 3:53 pm

I have a 76 cj5 with the orignal 258 motor and a Rochester monojet carb.I have rebuilt the carb twice. The problem I'm having is when I hit a bump (dosn't matter how big) my jeep boggs out. By boggs out I mean it starts to convulsing as if I just kicked it in the nuts and sometimes it dies and sometimes if I fether the gas it works it's way back to normal. By my guess the float is out of adjustment and it's flooding itself. I have no idea how to adjust the float sxept by bending it. I am also having the problem of going through a tank of gas in a week. That's just to work and back (a whoping 7 miles). I have PLENTY of beer and will BBQ. If anyone would like to help me figure this problem out over the weekend I would be immensely greatful. I will check my PM box daily. Thank you.

Might consider a new carb. There are many good ones out there that can be had for cheap like the Motocraft 2100 which I'm about to put on my 89 YJ with the 258. Just a thought.

2008 Dodge Ram 2500 6.7 CTD leveled with 20's and 35's.
Some boom toys here and there too.

You should head over to Matt and Becca love shack. They have all the tools! Just dont surprise them by driving up without calling first. Becca might be playing with the snake in the garage.

Haha. They were in a bed (of a truck) when I went by. Great people and well worth the trip if you can make it by there.

I am no mechanic, but some of these Rednecks are.... but I'd go down the path that ZAK pointed you in, a new carb. Sounds to me like you have some issues with the float and while you can spend time cleaning and replacing internals (which it seems like you already have), get a new carb. I think those high end off road ones are in the 200 range (but don't trust that figure) and surely a junkyard one can be had for under 20 bucks. If that don't suit your fancy, you've gotten a lot of nice offers of help.

Wait what?

Jeff was playing with the WhiteSnake?

Does anyone have photographic evidence? That is some shit for the Infected Room right there!!

It was a sucessful evening we found and fixed an ignition system issue. After that took a test drive with no issues.

I just want to thank Matt and Becka. They were both so nice and helpful. Yeah, the carb was not the issue. It was the cap and rotor. Going to have to figure a way to repay them both. Thanks again Matt and Becka. :Thumb: :wings: :drinks: :drinks: :drunkbuds:
