Nope no plate but the washers on the inside are pretty big. If I see just the bolts becoming a problem then I'll put a backing plate in.

There isn't a whole lot of pulling stress on the sliders and the pushing stress i's distributed on the tub by the slider. I think you'll be fine

Here the stinger!! It's 1.5" pipe so it has a 1.75 OD.
