Did you get your suspension tuned for the high speed yet? In the vid, looks like the tires had trouble hooking up. They will probably get better as they break in, what pressure do you plan to race at?

Rig looks fucking badass.
Extreme weight loss v2.o begins now

Took it to scales in Gorman, my limit is 4400 race ready

It was in full trim tody with spare and nearly full of fuel, weighs 4440lbs.

Gotta loose at least forty pounds looking for 60 to be safe
Glance over the 2014 rules again Matt:

6.2.18 VEHICLE WEIGHT
6.2.18.1 Official vehicle weight shall be the empty dry weight of the vehicle. Empty dry weight is measured without fuel, spare tires, tools, spare parts or occupants in vehicle. Official weight will be the weight as shown on the Hammerking Productions Inc. official scales. Vehicle must drive on and off the scales under its own power with all mechanical systems complete and race ready.

With empty dry weight, you will be WAY under the weight limit, right?

the rulebook as adjusted for 2014 on weighing vehicle. now states race ready with all mechanical systems in tact. I had brought up the dry weight in someone elses thread on pirate regarding weights, and the tech inspector chimed in with what they look for.

tire pressure in vid... lol was 30psi and we knew it was high, but never checked it till back at shop.

gonna probably run around 15-20psi for the race.

shocks will be getting tuned on saturday or sunday by FOA when we get to the lakebed.

The link I posted is from the 2014 rules, posted 3 weeks ago.

The phrase: Vehicle must drive on and off the scales under its own power with all mechanical systems complete and race ready , means that you can not pull axle shafts and mechanical/electrical parts off the vehicle to cut weight for the scales.

This is a quote from the inspector on his interpretation of the rules: I feel like we should weigh them the way you will crash them which is full race dress spare fuel and drivers, But that's not what the rule say. But if you are missing axles or a drive shaft or other dumb stuff I will catch it and you won't race.

I bet that 99% of rigs hit the scales with only a couple gallons in the tank and no tools (as is perfectly legal to do, see above quote). Gas is a little over 6# per gallon in California, so you can save over 100 Lbs by just running a couple gallons in the tank for weigh in. I bet you lose another 30# without tools. You can keep cutting stuff off your Jeep if you want, but I doubt you need to. PM other racers on pirate4x4, and im sure they will confirm.

Thanks Chris... I found the posts again... my stress level just dropped some, prepping for this has been making me a bit :furious:

Heck It was me/Napsta that pointed out those fine points of weight and then wane confirmed it right after that...

Time to get back to normal prep... gotta polish those rims....

Whats the plan for this run guys? What dates will ya'll be prepping and racing? The EMC is on 2/6 per the website. I'd like to roll up on 2/5, help, party, maybe wheel the YJ a bit, sleep in the Burb, watch the race, maybe help pit if needed, crash again the night after and head home on 2/7. I'm only going if you guys will be there.

We are also helping Jeff Russel Fri in the main race. He has a bad ass bright red IFS car and was 3rd for the season in the western series. Anyone who wants to help pit Fri for an unlimited car that is a contender is welcome.

We will have a pit meeting for the EMC race on Wed afternoon/evening. Probably at 8:00 pm after contingency and the EMC drivers meeting. The meeting will be in the 4643 tent at 136 Poison Spider. Be sure to check in with Matt or Aaron for up to date plans, you'll really need to be at that meeting if you're going to work in the pits. Also, you'll need a pit crew wrist band which is $5 (plus the $20 spectator band) and you'll need to be there early enough on Wed to sign the waiver at registration and get your pit band. Our pit is real close to Hammertown and on a corner and we have a 20x40 tent, so if you can't find Matt look for us at 136 Poison Spider.

Oh, and unfortunately, no drinking on race day until after the race. The rest of the time go for it. :drinks:

ow...that was intense....in a sentence

We got to lakebed and did a bit of testing on sat and Sunday. Then on Monday prerun day the engine died in middle of hammer town....could restart took a strap back to camp lol

Fought it for a couple hours found two bad ignition modules the one in dist and the spare. Got one from Napa in lucerne. Late in the day so no prerun time

Qualifying Tuesday went OK, had timing off from day before but completed the course and got a 19th starting position.

Got timing fixed Tuesday afternoon and got shock tuning support from FOA thanks again JD made it so much better

Wednesday ran it some and did a lot of prep got tech all wrapped up.

Thursday morning, hustle and bustle to get lined up. Off the line and for first few miles got smoked by v8 rigs and a couple 4.0s

Found a few of them broke in desert, found a few more after pit 1 in sandhill bypass route. Also had lost 90% of tools out of bag before pit 1 and air hose...

Mental note buy better tool bags and secure them like the black box in an airplane

Then the engine got a little warm...lol.. Pegged temp gauge into main pit. Got fuel and cooled off and away we went.

More desert beating till we found the rock trails gained a few spots then lost a few engine at 240+ constant now

Got hung up on jackhammer and nearly every spot gained was lost got into choco thunder gained a couple spots back but hammered it to hard bouncing lost front axle shaft.

Got through choco but couldn't make hill climb out in 3wd no winchpoint no tools engine at 260... Tried to get comma with 2a for tools and distance walk/run to them no comms

Looked at time left in race and busted up jeep called it there.

Heck of a race funnest time I've ever had wheeling and hardest 87ish miles I've ever driven

Look for more updates to this thread when I get back to it racing rest of season and making some changes
