Sounds like a short to me. I would chase the wiring down and make sure all the connections are good. Fuses should burn out that much.

I am pretty decent with electrical, but am too far away to stop and look. I agree that it is a short.

What is the fuse for?

no lights work just fine, but all the gauges read 0... weve replaced fuses and once we turn it over it pops

its a short because you are blowing fuses when you apply power. I just rewired all the gauges on my buggy because they popped fuses every time I turned on the power. finally found the problem; the gauges ran off a small fuse block under the dash, and the power wire to that fuse block was pinched and shorting out on the frame.

You have a lot of old wiring in that Jeep. I bet a hot wire lost some of the insulation and is shorting out. Since all of your gauges are losing power at the same time, it should be easy to find; meaning its a single wire that runs power to all of the gauges. It narrows your search to something further "upstream".

Stupid 4wd indicator wiring found its way onto the exhaust above the skidplate, was doing something unrelated and found it...
