Clearance Issues 91 yj

Postby johnny-walker » November 7th, 2011, 8:42 pm

need stock yj springs(front set) 91 yj, i have a sr 180 kit on my jeep with 4" springs and 1" lift shackles. dont like it because my shackles/ back of springs really mess with my clearance :furious: (springs and shackles get hung up on rocks etc) , what do you guys think about scraping the lift springs/ shackles (in front) and doing a soa. i know its partly because i only have 31's on it at the moment looking for 33's, gonna run 35's or 37's when the time comes but for now... that should help my clearance... think i'll leave the back with lift springs and shackles because i like the way it all works for now... will the soa flex as well as the lift springs??

leave the shackles up front, it climbs better(in theory),

post up a picture from the side of the shackle angle, may have some more thoughts there.

with the shackle in the back, the tires will move rearward when the spring compresses(climbing) and decrease the pressure against the object your climbing(traction).

If your hitting the shackle too much when approaching an obstacle, can put a shorter shackle on it, or move the rear spring hanger forward to have a better shackle angle.

oh ya and 35's help a bunch...

Do you need the longer shackle with 31's? I'd just try it with the stock shackle. Spring over is fine, but a bit much for 31's. You can run the stock springs with SOA which are softer and flex better than lift springs do, and you don't need the longer shackle. Not a bad way to go.

Sounds like you're talking about a shackle reversal, he's talking about a spring over.

yeah i already have the sr 180 kit on it ( i like it) but with the longer shackles (now at the back of the spring it gets hung up some times, i think you guys are right, i really dont need the longer shackles now so my best bet for now is just put the stock shackles back on . soa down the road when i get all my ducks in a row. thanks
