I'd like to do both

but with only one vote.... the Rubicon gets it.
Personally, I think late June is better.... or even earlier, but too early we might have weather issues. We went in late June this year.... the trail was great, just a little snow left, and the weather was beautiful. You guys went two weeks later and it seemed like it was hotter and a lot more bugs (although we had our share).
As I understand it, the earlier you get on the trail, the more difficult it is. As the summer moves along, too many trail fixes have been implemented.... after the Jambo, it just sucks balls as they make it usable for stockers to run the Con.
I also wouldn't mind hitting another trail or two on the way there or back to make the trip even more worthwhile since it is such a long drive. Maybe an optional side trip before and one after? Fordyce comes to mind, but it might be too far north... maybe a second summer/fall trip there?

It would depend on the dates and if it included a weekend. But ya, I have always wanted to do Dusy, and besides its closer.

Dusy sounds good too.... but me things the end of the summer is better for that one.
When does PG&E shut down the flow on Fordyce... as that is the time to go -or- does no one want to do Fordyce?
I guess I am fucking up your thread, this is about the Rubicon; therefore, I pick doing it as early as possible (June is better than July!). Starting on a Thursday might be problematic for most of us too... figure most will want to drive up the day prior... I know for me, it is an eight to ten hour drive to get there. Starting on a Thursday means most of us have to take off three days to run the Con... start on Friday and that is two days (I am going to guess most have Monday thru Friday gigs).

That's why we get it going now so people can vacation time off.

Barrett Lake Trail is close to the Rubicon, maybe 1/2 hr drive from Ice House Resort. It's in to the lake and then back out, and is the perfect trail to add to a longer Rubicon trip if you have vacation time. Can be an overnight trip, camp at the lake, or could even be an in and out if someone didn't have the extra day. Also, if you don't mind not seeing Lake Tahoe, you can run the 'Con and camp at Buck Island Lake, the next day drive up Cadillac Hill to the overlook and then back to camp, then go back out to Loon Lake and trailers (for those who tow) and you can run in to Barret Lake the same day, unless there are major breakdowns. It can be nicer to drive the trail backwards rather than the long drive out to Tahoe and around. But, if you're looking to do it on a long weekend then running another trail is out unless you want to just wheel hard every day.
Of course, I always prefer at least one lay day for hiking, swimming and chilling in camp, but that's me. Barrett Lake Trail, however, is the last trail to open, kind of like Dusy, and on a heavy snow year might not open at all, so it would be virtually impossible to plan to run it if you went in June. Also, June and early July isn't good for Fordyce since the water levels are still high, mid-July and later for the best chance to run Fordyce. We've also quit running Fordyce to the end and then around through Truckee, which is a pretty long drive, so we run it up and back instead. Gets you more wheeling and time on the trail.

I don't know how you guys normally run the 'Con. If you stay at Ice House Resort the first night, then if some folks don't mind getting there late at night it's actually possible to drive up after work to save taking a vacation day. Or work a half day, or take off a couple hours early, to save taking another vacation day. If the group leaves in the morning just after 8:00 you can top off gas and ice. There's a camp ground and a motel, and a restaurant. They'll also store tow rigs and trailers for $10 a day if needed. It's a 1/2 hr drive from there to Loon Lake.

The July Rubicon trip is an Infectious tradition man! I'm going no matter what.
Out of all of those trails in their current condition, the Con is the gnarliest, so thats where my vote goes.
I also voted on early July; It should be warm enough to swim and enjoy the top off the Jeep, but not so late that everything is stacked with rocks and made easy. Them skeeters is gonna be there no matter when ya go!

just so you all know, the first year i went with lbh we ran three other trails the day before we ran the rubicon wich made it worth the drive even more. we planned on doing this also on the 2010 run but it didn't pan out because not everyone was able to leave at the same time. lets see if we can get everything worked out ahead of time so we can go in a group and depending on what run we do maybe caravan together.
FYI this thread was really to help me pick my vacation time, all the other trails you guys wanna run is great but it would be cool to get a tradition started with a annual infectious off road rubicon run. there are still alot of people that have never run the rubicon and really want to.
but we do have a poll and your vote counts (if you plan on going)

That might end up being a bit late for me.... will have to figure out how things go... the second weekend I have two important birthdays that I probably can't skip.
Hopefully can make it this year with Infectious.
