Has anyone ever run this trail? Im looking to go do some fishing up there and want to know how the trail is. It looks like a dirt road from the youtube videos.

It's pretty much a dirt road with some ruts and a couple of very minor rocky places. Any Jeep or 4x4 will have no trouble. It's pretty nice to camp at the far end of the meadow next to the South Fork, where the river enters the meadow. There are camping spots with fire rings and a john.

I camp up there with the family for a weekend every summer, then run Sherman on my way back down the mountain (also pretty easy but dusty). You can do it in 2WD in a stock jeep. Ive even seen the Forest service bring their 1 ton trucks through there. There used to be a squeeze between 2 trees that would take the paint off full-size trucks, but the FS cut that down a long time ago. The area is pretty and the fishing for golden and brown trout can be good in the south fork. The area (Kern Plateau) gets some of the heaviest snow in united states. On a good year this trail will open in mid July, and some years the snow never melts off all the way. Its a great place to camp though.

Its the high sierra, the bugs are always bad when there is no snow on the ground - there is no avoiding it. Bring some 100% DEET and don't camp right next to the river and you should be OK.
And it may not be open in mid-July. Call the Black Rock or Kernville ranger station to find out before you make the long drive.
