Off Road Camping Trip Ideas?

Hey guys,
I had a blast on the Big Bear Camping Trip and was thinking of planning another one semi soon...
I was wondering if you have any ideas for a weekend or 3-4day trip?
I have seen some pics of Mojave Road... I know it's supposed to be basically really easy but looks like a fun camping trip... Lots of stuff to see...
Or possibly a weekend in Death Valley maybe in late September so it cools down some...
Also would have some fun things to go check out: Mines, geology, etc.
Although the desert has a lot of cool stuff to look at if you know where to go. I think a forest type of trip would be fun...
Looking for something about the same difficulty as Big Bear... so I don't get too damaged.

Starting to think of going to Last Chance Canyon at Red Rocks National Park... Looks like an awesome place to camp and decent wheeling... anyone been there? What do you think of it?

Sierras in the summer.....desert in the winter.
Places to camp in the mountains, that isn't Big Bear:
Locally, to Bakersfield, there's the Lake Isabella area, run The Black Gulch trail system. Freeway Ridge, Borderline, Black Gulch, camp in Lake Isabella or at Evans Flat.
North east of Lake Isabella is Sherman Trail and Monache Meadow, which is a pretty good weekend trip. Run Sherman on the way to Monache, and camp in Monache Meadow.
In the Shaver Lake area there is Swamp Lake Trail, Brewer Lake Trail, Red Lake/Coyote Lake Trail, Mirror Lake Trail, Strawberry/West Lake Trail, Bald Mountain Trail, and Dusy-Ershim Trail. You can camp on the trails, or you can set up a main camp and run the trails as day runs (except Dusy, but you can run part way in and back out in a day).
BTW, the Sierras are quite a bit prettier than the SB Mountains. If you like BB, you'll love the Sierras.
There is still plenty of time to plan a trip to the mountains this year, most of the trails just opened up within the last couple of weeks, and Swamp and Dusy won't open until this coming weekend. I'd be happy to help with directions if anyone wants to put together a weekend trip in Sept. I can't go myself, though I'd like to, I have a race car to build in the next 6 weeks.
Death Valley and Mojave Road, and Last Chance Canyon, are better a little later in the year.
Been to Last Chance many times, it's a nice place to go, and you can also run Nightmare Canyon if you pick the right weekend.

All sound fun.... after it cools down.

You do the leg work and setup a run... then hopefully someone wants to go with you. All of these sound like fun and I've wanted to do the Mojave trail for years and just never did.

Stock Class King of the Hammers racer, an XJ. Needs to be ready (well, look ready) by Off Road Expo at Pomona in Oct. We're supposed to be in the Goodyear booth.
Anyone want to come by any Sat in Sept?

Camp on the sand behind B-rads beach house; use his garden hose for a shower, drink his beer, and piss in his flower bed. You just have to ignore the animal noises and curious smells coming from inside the house.

Gets in the high 90s up there in the summer too, and no shade!

Well if someone has motobikes and atv's and is willing to let me ride! I'd be more than happy to do a weekend in Gorman... Otherwise, not too exciting for a whole weekend.

After this last camping trip.... I think no more camp sites. I can't even recall how long its been since I stayed in one of these, but to pay for a lousy experience in the woods... Not again. There are plenty of places in the wilderness that we can get to to enjoy nature, rather than stare down a couple of gangs from Compton all night.
Dusy and Moab are two places I'd like to do before mid fall. One is a three plus day trip, the other four plus.
Then you have the sierras, as Richard said, much better than SB mountains. Dusy is there, but lots of other, shorter trips. I would like to see Monanche, etc..
.

I elect you trail boos, leader, what-ever-the-fuck they call it and get planning. I don't know the area, so it's up to someone that does. Takers? Mark? Anyone?

if there is a trail, trees, hopefully some water, and the only thing we pay for is gas and supplies then lets do it
camp site=rules=missing the point of being outdoors.
im all about California Park Rangers making a special place for dumb a$$es that cant camp without making a mess and starting a fire. but with us we need to find our own little place. if we stay at a camp site i am going to make Brad run through it naked. this way if he does it on his own it will be only us to watch

Oh and to get back to the Original Topic... I'm thinking Last Chance Canyon and Nightmare Gulch around end of September or end of October... what say you guys? I would need a trail leader that would be willing to come, as I don't know the area... and am still a newb when it comes to off roading.
I'm trying to figure out when some of my friends would be able to make it... but am willing to work around Infectious Members schedules as a priority

So who would want to come? And would I do alright out there? Big Bear didn't seem too difficult for me, although I took the easier lines... I just don't want to end up over my head on a trail yet. If I have awesome spotters the past two runs, I think I'll be ok.

Becca is doing a Calico run in October (last weekend). That is a good time to go out there. I am considering going, but am looking to see who is also going.... I need to figure out if there will be candidates for some of the more difficult stuff. You will be fine there.
The two spots you mentioned (really one) are totally doable in your rig. Start a run thread. I am down for it (unless it crosses my Moab and Dusy trips (at this point, looking at early November for Moab (will post when it is a solid date), might skip Dusy since it opened so late)). Think about weather when you pick dates. Rain would be a BAD thing out there and you don't want it too hot. I think there is a season on those trails as well, but I am not 100% on that?
