CJ-5 possibly

So my parents are thinking about buying a 62 CJ-5 from around the corner. I believe they just wanna fix it up a bit and then resell it, so how much would a moderately built CJ from that era go for. It has a Chevy SB in it and an auto trans and stock axles, just to give some basic background.

No market for CJ5's, bad investment. Too many cheap YJ's out there with leg room and fuel injection, no one wants a 5. They have to be really cheap, and sold to someone who doesn't know any better.

Well I guess I'm one of those who doesn't know any better. I love my little 76 cj5. Yeah, she's a little on the small side but she dose the trick I do agree with you that there are little to no upgrades for them or aftermarket parts/upgrades. You kinda just have to make your own. I don't see why no one wants one. They fit just about anywhere. Well nice to meet you goatman.

Sadly... Richard is right. I've been trying to sell my 5 for a long time. Unless it is your/their dream car that is a planned keeper, I'd steer clear.

Oh we passed on this deal... I liked the jeep, but we wanted to make a little money off of it, that's all. I think i'll just stick with the ol' commando. I can do the kind of upgrades I like to it. I don't have to worry about paying for somebody's R&D. I'll do all the work and worry about the repercussions of said work later. Of course I find that a jeep is just one big test of all your abilities though: from driving to design. I realize that most want bolt on bought not built rigs, but building a jeep from the point I started is so much more satisfying.

what i remember about my cj5: it could be very exciting,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
when tried to stop (drum brakes all the way around)
it might go left,,,,,it might go right :freakout:
awful narrow, awful short, but when i owned one,
they were still fetchin good money

oh how we've learned so much in 20 years

2500. 1973, SBC, D44s, Detroits, 4.56s, 33s, 4" lift, Tuffy boxes (2), and a lot of rust. It needs a starter and maybe more.

Q= what flops more than a Toyota and breaks down more than an XJ?

A= A CJ5!

lol, Every year when we run the con, the side of the trail is usually littered with CJ5s.

Cool little rigs for sure, but most of those weak frames and mounts suffer from years of rust due to improper coating from the factory. By the time you build one up to be a reliable trail rig, you could have just got a TJ.

lol naw being presmog it would get a tube chassis treatment and 3 links. just retain the bits and pieces that have a VIN on it and call it a day. probably swap your SBC out with mine as well.

honestly why is everyone so quick to tease a CJ anyways?

A presmog vin is all you need. eddie aka superyota used a willy's vin on his buggy. His buggy is really a suburban which was chopped way down to nothing except the front frame rails. The tube work and the chop was all done in 48 hours.

but dosnt it need to be relitevly close in size to the doner vehicle? i have a 74 3/4 ton long bed chevy that i considered doing this to. i didnt because its freaking massive and if i cut it down to the size of a jeep / buggy and ended up getting stopped i think they would take it away for ever.
