Found on PBB.... maybe we should adopt?

Postby abendx » February 5th, 2013, 7:55 am

Here is a trail rating system I found on Pirate... maybe we should adopt something like this?

0- stock 4x4
1- 33+, posi (lift and under/side armor... or possible body damage)
2- 35+, posi (under/side armor... or possible body damage)
3- 35+, locker (under/side armor... or possible body damage)
4- 35+, locker, winch, under/side armor
5- 37+, f&r lockers, winch, under/side armor, body damage likely
6- 37+, minimal body panels or Exo
7- 40+ tube buggy
8- be as cool as Desert Dog
9- be as cool and intimidating as DD
10- you're not DD, don't even think about it

What do you all think? Changes... good as is... or fuck you asshole, we already have a trail rating system!

i agree we do need a guide like this. Although going from stock 4x4 to 33s and a posi is a lil extreme jump to me...

Never mentions 33+ with locker, and you can stuff 32s under a stock cherokee.

I think it's a great scale, but it needs some Eddie Van Halen style; it has to go to 11.

I feel sorry for those poor birfield yota guys... I've seen them break while just pulling their yota off of a trailer before.

ya you could stick 32s under an xj. But I have seen open/open diffs on 35s and go a lot of places... I mean it all depends on the driver.

Not everyone on here are locked or are posi. so any trail that you wouldnt take a stock jeep means you have to have a locker or posi in it to go on it? That doesnt make sense to me

FAWK it..... too much whining about little boy builds. So I changed that shit up.
0- Wheels and engine... doesn't have to run under it's own power nor do the tires need to hold air.
1- 40+, f&r lockers, winch, under/side armor (body damage fo sho and axle shafts snap faster than Bigfoot gets a little girl to show her tits!)
Is that easy enough for you all? :thefinger:

Seriously.... is a scale like this worth anything to anyone or should we stick with a fucked up scale that leads to many "private" runs?

I think it's a pretty good trail rating system. It gives us something to discuss and argue about. Then when we apply the rating system to the various trails, it gives us even more to discuss and argue about.

i really think that when people are setting up a run people should use a little common sense on what types of rigs are going and the location! i have no problem with anyone at all going but if you have to be hooked to others all the time to even move the question is who is gonna pay for the repairs when something breaks?? because everyone knows that towing and pulling is alot easier way to pop something! dont get me wrong im always down to help anyone and would never leave someone stranded but also dont hold back some of the more capable rigs from going and playing either! so simplified just use common since about trail selection and also equipment.

The whole "towing someone's rig" out of the trail has to stop. If you're stuck slightly use a winch. If you're junk is broke on the trail you're gonna have to find a way back with the parts to fix it on the trail. If you wanna stay there and have someone run down some parts in town for you that's cool. Different arrangements must be made then what has been happening.

LMAO! Richard!

My 2¢ is a good start but I do agree it needs a little more gradual increase in the beginning as we have lots of variations of mildly built rigs. If we put together a system that we all agree on (for the most part) it would help reduce the occurrence of underbuilt rigs ending up on runs.

As for the towing thing. Every situation is different, if someone wishes to put the strain on their rig and tow it is their choice, but the flip side is if no one can/wants to than the person has to accept that they may have to leave their rig it'll parts can be gotten. The thing in the last 3 times I have been involved with a tow out of a trail the vehicle couldn't be left as it was clogging the trail. So they had to be towed out to a wider area. Once they were there they either continued on under their own power, or had a little help from a tow vehicle.
