Poker run

Anyone want to plan or do a poker run. We could have half the money go to the winner and the other half to the vets. We could do on our next meet and greet.

Post up ideas, for a good cause as Bert would say.

Each off road vehicle would pay $10-20 to enter. Extra hands could also be bought for passengers. Maybe something like meet at the Chevron on 178 and get one card each participant. Set up some GPS coordinates or locations in the foothills to get 3 more cards. Meet back at Maria Bonita on 178 and get our last card. The person with the best hand wins half of the purse and the other half would go to the vets with the money from last night. When the cards are handed out, we put the initials of the person getting the card so no one can trade cards. Probably could be done in about an hour. We could do it on our next meet and greet night.

What do you think, any other ideas?

I like it, but why not make it on a weekend and put the card stations along a trail. Got to get off road to go get your next card. Just an idea.

What if you don't have a gps? Could we set something up with staged along a trail with cards to hand out? I've never done a poker so I don't know how they work. :dontknow:

give out a card at the top of gatekeeper, another at the top of Piston hill, another at evens flat, etc. Instead of GPS coordinates, I think it would be better to give them out at known locations / routes?

This sounds like a fun idea!

Would there be a limit on how many can play or would you use more than one deck of cards?
If we get enough people maybe we could do a seperate 50/50 raffle?

You could use multiple decks. At the beginning when you pay your entry fee (Lets say $20.00) you are registered and given one envelope. One card to an envelope, there should be organizers at the different locations to hand out the envelope. Each person who paid takes an envelope ( do not open any of your envelopes) 5 envelopes to a player. At the end of the run you bring your 5 envelopes to the organizers table and they are opened at that time and your hand is registered. Winning hand takes half the pot, if more than one winning hands they split that half of the pot.

We use to do this out at Havasu Lake to raise money for the volunteer fire department.

There are two ways to look at this, moderate to hard or easy to get more people involved. I would put it out to all the clubs and thru any off road business in the area.

If we get enough people by inviting other clubs maybe we should do a 1st, 2nd & 3rd place + maybe we can get some of the 4x4 shops & truck customizing & accesories shops to donate for a raffle. We make this happen and we should get a huge turnout.

I think this would be a great idea!!!

What about doing it at Gorman? If we do it there we can invite some of the SoCal clubs and they wouldn't have to drive far. We could also do a BBQ/camping trip as well.

An annual Infectious Offroad Poker Run is a good idea. However, I'd suggest that it would support one of the offroad causes to help keep our trails open. Maybe like half to Stewards of the Sequoias and half to Del Albright and Blue Ribbon Coalition.

So when should we set this up???

Lets start throwing out dates. Also who wants to staff it? We will need volunteers. The sad thing would be the staff can't play

I would suggest that two weeks prior to this run we all drive around town on the weekends or (you day off) and pass out flyers to any offenders we see maby even try to get it in the paper got to spend money to make money.
