Jeremy.
Hope you feel better soon. Relax as much as possible and hopefully it will heal on it's own.... take plenty of time to let it heal on it's own.
A couple of years ago I had a third of my neck replaced... it was not a fun experience, but I am better off because of it. I took over a year of consistent attempts to do anything to avoid surgery... in the end it was my only option and a horrible one at that.
If you have any questions regarding any treatments they offer, let me know and I might be able to tell you what my experience was.

thanks guys. the doctor said i most likely have a bulged disk and that is causing the crazy pain, numbness and tingling in my hand and legs. I find out tomorrow when my mri will be. i am pretty sure i will have to have surgery. I have had a bad back since 05 when i had a bad car accident. I have had my back "go out" before but never like this. This is waaay different. And i hope it gets fixed real soon because even with my tiny wife doing the work the pain is too much.

I have been bed ridden since saturday and i am already going stir crazy

Bummer Jeremy. Hope you don't need any surgery. I've been around long enough to see plenty of friends go through this, and if it can start to get better on it's own then you're much better off without having to get the surgery. My understanding is that a ruptured disc (if that's what you have) will eventually heal itself in most cases, but the surgery might be needed to remove the part that's pushing against the nerves so it doesn't do permanent damage. If you get passed the risk of nerve damage and it starts to heal itself, and the pain gets better, then you're most likely much better off not having any surgery.
Wish you the best.

NO SURGERY Jeremy
I'm telling you go to a chiropractor instead
Just look in the yellow pages or ask a friend for a referral
I love my chiropractor, his name is Doctor Pederson 325-4446
I'm not pushing him on you, there is plenty other ones in Bakersfield
but I'm telling you try one first but before you even consider surgery...
By the way I'm a friend of your Dad and Caren

wow my dad and caren said they knew someone who liked jeeping. Didnt know it was you haha small world. I have had a bad back since 2005 when i had a bad car accident. I have done tons of physical therapy. And i always work out my back so i wouldnt have a weak back. Xrays show that my bones and spacing are fine. I dont know if a chiropractor can do anything but maybe ill give it a try. I have had pain everyday since 2005 and i have had my back go out on me several times but it never happened like it did this last time where my legs collapsed and i couldnt walk at all for 3 days. I am still in lots of pain and can barely walk with a cane. I am hoping monday's mri will show me what is wrong. TJ willy were you at the coast recently?

I still think a chiroprator is an option.
We usually try and go to the coast about once a month from March to October.
From October to February we got to Dumont Dunes....
We just went to a big Jeep run on Memorial Day in Barstow, it was HDR, lots of fun.
I am going to try and Talk Steve and Caren into going to Gorman with us next weekend, if they go Steve can ride in the Jeep
with Vince. Caren and I can play in the Rhino

Whoa.... seek real medical advice (i.e. a spine surgeon) before going down the voodoo path.
No offense to anyone that finds Chiropractic adjustments as sound medical care, but I have noticed three things.
1. No one that sees a Chiropractor ever stops seeing them.
2. Those same people that never get better, sing the highest praises of this type of care, yet they never get better?
3. Back specialist in the medical field (i.e. surgeons, physical therapist) don't often, if ever recommend this route of care.
Seems like a scam to me, but it is just my opinion and my third observation could just be those wanting to keep the dollars in their own pockets.
When I hurt my neck, I had a lot of people tell me to see "their" Chiropractor. Something inside told me to stay away, especially after a friend told her's that I was in urgent need of his care and he called me one night around eight pm to sell me on his services and how I was risking it all by not coming to see him... how many real doctors have you come across that will do high pressure sales tactics?
In the end... my surgeon told me (after surgery) that the way the disc material was wedged between the vertebrae and the spinal cord, I would have been paralyzed if I had had tried any 'adjustments.' What on the surface looked like a few ruptured discs, turned out to be three removed vertebrae.
Now mind you.... during that sales pitch phone call I spoke of, the Chiropractor in question told me he'd look at the MRIs after I got them, but wanted me to come in for immediate relief and not to wait...
Just something to chew on.

Well i think there is alot of truth to what you are saying,
Yesterday while waiting for my mri, i was sitting next to an elderly lady who engaged me in conversation about my back. She told me all about her chiropractor and sang praises about him. She has been going to chiros for 30 yrs, this particular one 20yrs and goes in every 10 days for an adjustment. That is crazy!! Before i read your post Brad i already didnt want to go down that path. It seems if a chiropractor can alleviate any pain it is temporary and must be seen on a repetitive basis. That is scary how that chiro wanted to do something blind and could of paralyzed you!

When I did mine, it was multi level in the neck... ADR was not approved by the FDA for that application at that time. I would have loved to have tried ADR.... faster recovery and it's just damn cool! In my neck is a combo of Chinese Rat DNA (BMP), titanium cages and plates.
Did you get the results from the spine guy or the radiologist? When I went through this, they both assessed things differently. Try all other routes before you let the recommend surgery. Surgery sucks and usually leaves you with new things wrong.
