The ZJ.... DEAD??

Postby t_long927 » January 28th, 2011, 6:35 am

Ok so here is the deal. Driving the jeep and I lost all engine powe. It gave me one back fire and that was it. I have fuel, compression, and air. That leaves one thing, spark. I have spark coming out of the Coil but not out of the Distributor. All fuses and relays are working. I chatted with Henry, and Rigo ended up coming over. We swapped the ECU out with one from pick a part and still the same thing. We tore the distributor apart and there is signs of water damge, probably from when Victor used his hummer to pull me through a huge water pit. The contacts in the Distributor are all rusted. We also found some small broken pieces sitting in the bottom of the Distributor. They look like pieces of a small washer/metal o-ring. Not sure if I should get a new distributor or get the CPS that we all think is bad. Just to recap I have fuel and compression. And I have spark out of the Coil but none out of the Distributor.

What do you guys think???

That's what I think I will end up doing, buying a new Dist and CPS. But I hate throwing parts at a car in hopes if will fix it... I mean what else could it be???

Start smaller than that. Try the rotor and dist. Cap first. I sure hope you cleaned those rusty contacts off and tried it then. That's what it sounds like to me.

Ok guys, I got it fixxed. There was about 6 teeth missing on the Distributor and all of the other teeth on the drive gear were pretty much gone. Thanks to Rigo and Henry for all of the phone calls and texts that went back and forth.
