King of Hammers with JKO

Had a great time with the JKOwners crew at this year's King of Hammers. This event is unbelievably huge now, but still as fun as ever. I don't like the new spectator rules, but I guess they have to do what they have to do; the BLM was everywhere complaining to the staff about crowd control. This year's course favored the desert racers over the rock crawlers, and unfortunately stayed out of sledgehammer due to crowd concerns.

It was awesome to see Poison Spyder and Off-Road Evolution racing their 4-door JKs in the event, and for inviting us into the pits to gawk at their rigs.

I tried to hook up with Goatman, but every time I hit his pit or camp spot, I just missed him.

Chris, I saw you drive out of the pits Thurs late afternoon but you didn't see me. I was at the FOA trailer checking on some final shock tuning for one of our cars. It was a great race, and actually had quite a bit of rocks, when you count that with two laps they ran everything twice. The best spectator action was on Outer Limits if you knew to go over there (and ignored the no spectator signs). The cars hit OL at race mile 28 and the trail is seriously chewed up from all the rains, lots of crazy lines and passing and stupid driving and carnage. All four of our cars were going through OL almost together, two were right together helping each other get through the mess. The remote pit location was right after Outer Limits so we had three of our four cars in that pit at the same time, made it pretty exciting.

I was working as pit crew chief for Sean Rose, Travis Watford, Rob Usnick, and Jason Spegal. Jason qualified in the LCQ, and ended up being the only one to finish the race. Sean rolled on Outer Limits on the 2nd lap and couldn't self recover, and we went out to get him at 11:00 pm and didn't get back to camp until 3:30 am.......it was a long day.
