Heater problem, help..!

Postby Mickey » February 24th, 2011, 11:02 pm

I have a 99 WJ. My problem is my heater doesnt want to blow hot. every now and than it might actually blow room temp, but usually its just outside air it seems (which is cold). any ideas anyone?

I know the WJ have bender issues... but doesnt seem to be the same i dont think, but than again what do i know...

Ive checked the coolant, its good... i may change thermastat just to see if that helps... but dunno...

do you have a temp guage or a victor light?

i would start with the thermastat as long as all your hoses and vacume lines are good. The thermastat could have been removed to elemenate a over heating problem by the previous owner or it could be bad, thermastats are really inexpensive and at least you will know you have a new on in there, I really think this will fix it.

Grab the hoses to the heater core to see if it's getting water inside the cabin. If it is it's a dampener problem. Either a vacuum leak or linkage problems.

For the longest time I couldn't figure out why my defroster dampener wouldn't open just to find that the PO, Shocker Motorsports, had damaged the linkage from the actuator to the dampener while installing the stereo.

Both the lines going into from the outside are warm/hot and the hose under the glove is also warm... something tells me its going to be them damn bender doors..

Check for a leak/break in the vacuum lines to the blend door, either side of the firewall. I hope you won't need a blend mechanism replaced, that means getting behind the dash.......not fun.
