Coilovers done

Postby Desert Dog » March 4th, 2011, 4:06 pm

G&G just finished my front mounts today. Not bad flex for a short wheelbase on 40s:

I can lift a tire higher than the other 3 tires on the ground. Those are 40s, so at least that high. I would get even more if I aired down the tires. For a short wheelbase (unstretched) Jeep, your not going to get much more than that.

I've been looking at the poly kit for awhile i like the front a lot but the rear bugs me. The rear coils being in the stock shock postion how is that as far as canrnage goes. I broke off the ajustment know on my rancho 9000s the first time out just want to know what you think DD.

They are not totaly in the stock position; uppers are in a completely different spot and lowers are moved up a couple inches. New mounts are provided upper and lower.

I have destroyed 4 rear shocks on my JK before, so I realize your concern. The coils on the coilover prevent anything from hitting the shaft. The kings also have a protective cone at the base of the coilovers, and this coupled with the mount being moved up a couple inches and the big tires, seems to clear fine. I wheeled all over Johnson Valley (including some of the harder trails) with the rears in and I never touched them.

The only other option is to cut holes in the tub and bring the shocks through the floor to a hoop in the trunk of the Jeep. I did not want to do this because I may stretch my Jeep at some point in the future.

Ok thats good to know I wasnt worried about the shafts but more of the base of the mount. If Im gonna spend $500-$800 on coil overs I really dont want to destroy them. Also how is the streetablity?
