Coilovers might disqualify me (like they do for other stock class races). But if accepted, all I would need is a comp cage with frame tie-ins, a kill switch, and some 35" stickies. Ill be watching this closely, wait for the rules to get posted.

I bet they allow coilovers, some kits come with coilovers, and it's still a stock type suspension. We'll have to see what the actual rules look like.

Stock style means if it came with leaf springs it has to have leaf springs. Coilovers are a big question mark since they're still a coil and a shock, just have to see what the rules say and what the promotors are thinking. Dave Cole meet with a bunch of wheelers, competitors and industry people in Moab and they hammered out the rules, we just need to see what they are. I'm waiting to see if my buggy would qualify for mod stock class since I still have an XJ frame. Mine depends on how much of the frame they want, and how much body they want.

Clarification came fast, Dave says no coilovers unless it came with coilovers.

Oh well, Chris, it could have been fun.

Yep, most stock-class / full-bodied rock crawling events are saying "no way" to Jeeps with coilovers now  .

Ha! I'm trying to figure out how I can sponsor myself!!

But, of course, G&G would somehow get behind anyone who wanted to do it.

BTW, you know we sponsored an XJ for Rallycross racing, we did the initial build. He's running the open class and after only a couple races he's at the top of the class, no wins yet, but 3rd and 4th against Evo's and WRX's. Not bad for a mostly stock Jeep.

There will be no qualifiers for the 2012 race. I will open registration in the next few weeks. $200 deposit to hold your spot. All entries in by 10/1/11. Picking the starting order at Offroad Expo in October. Random draw. Stock Mod first, Stock second.

There will be brand/mfg based contingency and a cash purse paying to 3rd. Winners of both classes start in the big race on Friday 99th and 100th respectively.

Entry fee will be in the $700 range and be fully covered by media including our DVD production.

Course will be harder than UTV but not meant to wreck your car.

Think 70 miles of desert + Claw, Big Johnson, Balderdash, Aftershock, Fissure, Martel, and Elvis.

So who's going to win?

Can a 85 toyota pickup beat a 2011 JK? Or is an EB really the best stock 4x4 ever made? What about a late model bronco with TTB?

Bring it!

Edit... and Im now accepting applications for my job duties on Monday so I can race too

DAMN COILOVERS :furious: .
Otherwise, Id be all over this. Plus I love those trails.

Got the D60s, crawl ratio for the rocks, hydro assist, race seats and 5 point harnesses, Beadlocks, 1350 CV drivelines, will be supercharged to compete on the desert section, and air bumps for the whoops and jumps. Im also not stretched, so would qualify.

All I would need is frame tie-ins for my cage, a temporary fuel cell, cut-off switch, and a couple sets of 35" stickies (need to be able to change a set at the pit between laps).

Chris with 37's and your coil overs would still make tech for the stock mod class. and in the stock mod can have stickies.

in the stock class, no stickies, only dot tires.

If i would enter i think i would change the front to a shackle reverse so the yj would do a bit better at speed.
in the stock class, no stickies, only dot tires.
Not the case at all. You can run stickies, they just have to be DOT approved. Red label BFGs are not DOT approved, but other manufactures comp tires are.

Maxis Creepy Crawler makes a bias comp rubber DOT approved tire in 35" (model 8090). I saw them ran in werock and calrocs in stock class and they kick butt, and have the toughest sidewalls out there. That it what I intended to run.

Stock mod class will be out of my league, basically buggies with Jeep frames like Richards.

Your going to need to get yourself some ponies under the hood too. Most of the distance put between rigs is done in the desert sections. youll be running against stroked, supercharged, and NOS equipped Jeeps. Richard's friend at Absolute Off-road launches their 2-door JK up waterfalls and blasts through open desert with a 150 shot of nitrous!

I wish they just had a daily driver race; street legal, full body and frame, factory wheelbase, fundamental safety equipment, and factory engines.

JK Experience is starting to put on some cool events for JKs, where the rules are just that it has to be full-body, street legal, and be built with readily available commercial parts (no custom suspension, steering, axle, or engine components). This draws in lots of weekend warriors and tons of sponsoring manufacturers.

Re: Stock class KOH..........Chris??

Postby Goatman » April 27th, 2011, 7:07 am

Mine is cut down a bit too much to qualify for stock mod class. I'd have to build the frame back to the center of the rear axle and add some stock body panels. Also I'd have to change my 16" rear shocks to 14's, and get some 37" DOT tires. All doable, but it would cost me much more to make it stock mod class legal than it would to race it unlimited KOH again. I'm scheduled for some motor upgrades which will help the power, we just went with too mild a cam. I'm swapping my ported and polished head for another one with bigger valves and more porting, the better '99+ intake manifold and an even larger throttle body, and a much bigger cam. I bet I pick up 30+ HP over what I have now.......but it still won't compete with those high HP V8's.

I wish they would make a 4cyl and 6 cyl class in unlimited KOH, but I doubt they ever will. It's tough to compete just to finish when it takes so much time and money to race. And, as fun as KOH is, it takes away from wheeling.

oh i know my yj would loose out in the desert sections, just cant ride at speed with the leafs, no reason for me to think about engine when the suspension would be limiting factor.
