Armed Forces Day Run at Calico (2nd Annual) -- MAY 21/22

I just saw Harry sold his jeep..... Seems a little FUBAR to not have the Gulf War XJ at the Armed Forces day run..
I'm just sayin Harry you still better be there.....I went more than 10 years with out talking to you, to finally get to hang out on the trails. Dont think your going AWOL now. Just so you know..... I will find you Even If i have to winch your new 84 Yugo, or what ever gas saver you get, across every rock out there. Love ya brother...

This looks like its shaping up to be a kick ass run! Richard and Cliff are coming out on Saturday to lead a Gatekeeper / Scrambler Canyon run (of course you can bypass gatekeeper). Time to take the tops and doors off the Jeeps.

We can split the group at the Scrambler Canyon turnoff (about 100 yards past gatekeeper), the more built rigs can run Scrambler and milder rigs can run Doran. We can all meet at the Bismark mine and run through Odessa together. What do you guys think?

I will probably just be coming out for the day. I'm trying to get a few guys from Ft. Irwin to join us too.

We usually meet at Weedpatch and 58 at 6:00, try to leave before 6:30. Top off gas and use the bathroom in Yermo, and be off the pavement in Calico just before 9:00, meeting to Oxnard gang at the Doran turn-off at that time.

I looked at the weather. As of right now, the forecast calls for lows in the mid 50s and highs in the mid 80s. PERFECT. But..... one small problem. Sunday has been currently called at a 60% chance of rain. That is not too good... but at least Saturday is suppose to be clear. We'll see as the weekend gets closer.

Rain is probably a really bad idea out there as the desert is prone to having flash floods.... those canyons we run in would likely, not be safe. Depending on how the weather stacks up in the coming week, we might have to adjust the plans for something less problematic in a rain storm.

Waiting to see how the forecast settles before deciding if I am going to camp or not. As of now, it looks like it is going to rain pretty good out there on Sunday. Forecasts always change, so we will see over the next few days.

Maybe.... we can play that one by ear, see if anyone wants to and see what looks good for the group that remains. If I were you, I would prepare for both days, just in case you do decide to wheel more on Sunday (really... if you are spending the night, it is only an additional lunch and water you'll need).

Hmm... what I am seeing now is 10% chance of rain for Sunday.... too little to worry about IMO. Now.... they are calling for heavy winds on Sunday. That might be enough to keep us from wheeling on Sunday.... but we can play that by ear (who knows when the wind will be bad?). But, as you pointed out, the weather forecast often changes from day to day.

So it sounds like you got your rig going and Tilly will be along as well... and the two new friends (well, new to us). COOL!

As for Friday.... I was not planning on doing that, but with names like this, you are going to have some fun! I might have to see about adjusting my plans and coming out there to party. I'll call you and let you know if I am going to do that. Looks like you guys will be finding the camping spot. Make sure you guys section off an area for up to ten rigs and their tents (a few might have trailers).
