JUNE 16-20 -- RUBICON

This is where to post runs that are going to happen!

JUNE 16-20 -- RUBICON

Postby abendx » May 16th, 2011, 9:54 am

Place holder for the 2nd annual IOR Rubicon pre-run.

This is going to be a smaller, more nimble group to run the 'Con at the very beginning of the season. There will likely be plenty of snow around still, much of it likely on the trail itself (although last year, there wasn't really much snow on the trail until we got to the last section with all the water crossings (between the eastern trail head and caddy hill).... we had to traverse some drifts as high as maybe four feet that dropped off into the water crossings which were just barely breaking the door line on my heep (~2.5' deep).

More info later. Current plan is to Roll up Thursday, spend the night close to the trail in a hotel. Hit the trail, early Friday. Plan on the trail is to maximize play time after wheeling... dinner, hiking, swimming (if it's not just above freezing as it was last year), drinking, etc.. We should be off the trail by around noontime on Sunday. I am thinking about spending the night in Tahoe and enjoying the lake on Sunday evening and then making the drive home on Monday, but if you need to work on Monday.... the long drive awaits you after wheeling.

I assume the other run will have lessor requirements, but on this run, I'd like to not see anything less than 35s, lockers on both ends, and no more than six rigs.

Okay... everything is looking like a go. PBB is reporting lots of snow still on the trail, but the forecast from here on out is in the 70s and sunny.... the snow will be gone for the pre-run!

No one else wants to play when the trail is at it's best?

Where did you see that. Last report I saw is no one is running the trail through and no one is getting to either Spider or Caddy from either prospective side. If it is only 3-5 feet right now, the trip is a go.

So.... do tell!

If Pete has a clue (most likely, from past experience with him, probably NOT).... then we will go. BUT, me thinks there is 15+ feet in the middle between Spider and Caddy Hill.

I think you'll be good for this run. There will be a few drifts that haven't melted, but nothing a locked jeep on 37s can't easily handle. Why are folks down "south" so afraid of a little snow :dontknow:

You guys should join one of our snow runs next winter and get some practice in.

According to Pirate, there are still 15+ foot deep areas past Ellis and no one is getting in far on the Tahoe side. As far as I know, no one has completed the trail and it doesn't look like anyone is getting very far in either.

I can't see driving up and taking the time and cash to not be able to run the entire trail.

If 15 feet is a "little" snow.... what do you call a lot?
