So are we going to take turns pulling the broke toys? Flip coins, draw straws, game of beer pong to find the lucky tow vehicle? :lol3:

Larry:

The week you guys selected is going to be packed. Jim was up there this weekend (I was at forest festival in big bear) and sent a bunch of photos thre is still a lot of snow, i would say 2-3 feet at loon . Obviously it is going to be melting quickly with the heat, but i would suspect the water levels will be much higher this year.Regardless of what time you leave or arrive, the Rubithon group will have reserved the slabs etc at the springs. I ran the trail last year multiple times. I went during the Rubithon, following day, and they had taken just about every spot at the springs. We ended up camping at the base of Cadilac which sucked! In the past the TLC group had scout teams at the springs all week so you could not set up camp even if you arrive early as the springs are ."reserved". I would agree about " taking in the views" for the first timers. Don't want to rain on the parade, but this week is going to be rough. My group is doing slick rock, deer creek, strawberry and rubicon July 20-24. This is the run you wen on. Four great trails. We had hoped to hit Barrett but many are saying it won't even open this year. Regardless, as Chris said, it is still better than work. Have a good time and keep me posted.

How much of a problem would it be to leave one day early? I was hoping to take in the sights, sounds stressfull to have to race around keeping ahead of the other guys.

If we early enough on Thursday we could go straight to the trail and run to buck island and camp out Thursday night there then get an early start on Friday and head to the springs and still camp out 2 nights there. The key is get an early start. Then we got the few that are towing their rigs, they would have to leave even earlier or the night before to drop off their tow rigs and meet us at the trailhead.
This is getting crazy
As i seen on pirate4x4.com the Buck island has been reserved for july 15 to the 17th for 30 JKOs. Also july 12 to 15 theres a group of broncos that will be out there also about 6 plus..... hmmm

Its worse than that. I know of six clubs now, not counting the LCs and the JKOwners group, that have moved their run to our weekend.

And Luke is right, was told this morning that TLCA is sending in a bunch of Cruisers very early Thursday morning to keep everyone from camping in the area of the springs. I also got a PM from the JKOwners norcal group that they will be filling up Buck Island and the run is growing larger as they now they have vendors like Poly Performance. Rumor has it that a large group that had to cancel their June run is camping at little sluice on our weekend too.

This just keeps getting worse.
I think we should just start early on Friday and see what happens. As long as we hit the trail before the LCs and make big sluice before they do, we should be fine. Leaving between 5:30-6:00 still lets us take in the sights during the day with enough light to film, and puts us about an hour or more ahead of the circus. Its going to be REALLY important to bug out early on Sunday though. Remember Cadillac last year (waiting for hours) - image that x 20!

Im down for whatever. I can get my relax on with an ice cold margarita at the Black Jack tables Sunday night :yup:
Me an Becca will be first timers and this is about what i am thinking. There is a reason people visit this trail repeatedly, there is more to see than can be done in one trip. It is better than work, lets just go have a good time, and take the trail and groups as they come.

Heck for this trail, I could sleep on the hood of the jeep and have a great time.

Abendx has been known to turn on the jeep and hop on the hood in the nude to sleep. He needs to stay warm, but can't stand blankets. Contrary to stereotypical behavior, B-rad tends to keep his cloths on and pass out properly if he ingests too much Jack, so this is our best case scenario; bring lots of Jack. If he consumes a large quantity of Jack but not enough to pass out, he will likely disrobe and seek warmth in Victor's tent. In which case you WILL NOT awake to the refreshing smell or pine needles and bacon on the grill, but of violated nether-regions emanating from the smegma-lined shame shack.

2k rigs? Holy fuck.

Okay.... it's really 200+ rigs in the Rubithon group, then 150+ in the LR group, 30+ in the JKO group, and god only knows who else. This is going to be as crowded as the Jambo, with zero organization.

Quite possibly, we have selected the worse weekend of the whole year to hit the CON. Good job Larry. :thefinger: :thefinger: Just kidding.... we'll have fun, no matter.

Question is.... who could run this during the week? That would be the time to go with the mess that the winter has created.

The problem with changing the days is that some of the people only took off a few days off plus the weekend to go on this run. And since none of them are posting up any suggestions we have to think that they don't want to change the run dates so they don't miss out on the run.

I do have an idea for those of us driving our rigs up there and finding a camping spot Thursday night is going to be next to impossible, what if we do this? Drive up there late Thursday night (alot cooler) and go straight to the trail head and chill out while we wait for the trailer queens to get there. What do you guys think?

Others please chime in, we need to know what you think.

Im down for anything that keeps the stress down and pace fun. Including changing dates, going early, whatever. My schedule is flexible. Ill probably take extra time off just to be able to take our time coming back.
Ive never been so i dont have suggestions, just let me know what works best.

Randy and I have been floating around the idea of running the trail Sunday through Tuesday to miss the crowd, but I don't want to miss the rest of you. Just thinking 400+ rigs that we know about.... and with all the pushing around with JJUSA and other events in June, there could be upward of god knows how many rigs on the trail that weekend.

How about Dusy, instead? Closer and less traffic. Or the following weekend, 400+ rigs, what a mess that will be.

I don't think dusy is even open yet, I haven't checked but it usually opens later (after the rubicon clears up)
I think it's a higher elevation? Anyone know?

You are probably right Larry, I think Dusy is over 10,000 feet elevation.

i think we will be fine on the trail, the rubithon is during the week and should be off trail on thu/fri...

as long as we get out ahead of the cruiser group we should be fine, camping may be a bit of a pain but its not called "roughing it" for nothing.

I believe they run in on Thursday and out on Sunday, but a big part of that group runs in on Friday due to work, etc. Its not an organized event like the Jambo, so people just show up when they want. We just have to hit the trial before they start winching.
