I went out last nite to re-spool my line after using it and well some of it had melted to the spool :furious: . High quality crap is what I think. So I'm just gonna wait and save for some master pull line. Fucking bull shit that one pull and the line is done. :owned: :furious: I told you my winch sucked.
The braking system on cheap winches tend to get spools hot really fast. Even the manual for the Warn M8000 says to only run the winch for 30 seconds at a time, then let it cool down. So the first thing is to not overdo it; don't be afraid to take some 15 min breaks between 30 second pulls. Some winches have a bad design that uses heat transfer to the spool to cool the motor, and these will have more problems than brands like Warn or Superwinch.

So alot has to do with the user. Only do short 30 second pulls at a time with 10-15 min breaks in between. Also, be sure to run your engine during the pull, as this gives more juice to the winch and helps lessen the strain.

Another good solution is to use commercial heat wrap to insulate the first wraps on the spool. Masterpull makes 10' sections of heat wrap for this application.

That being said, I have been running Viking line on my Warn XD9000i for over a year without heat wrap, with frequent use on hard pulls, and have had no issues. I'm getting lots of abrasion damage, but no heat damage.

Oh man.... I didn't want to say that. I have been hoping and hoping it would mature on my hard drive and be better at some point. But as Pete said... the video kinda blows. I'll have to do something.

The problem with all the video are everything is just too slow. I literary have two plus hours of video and there ain't really anything. If you want the raw, I can give it to you (or you can come over with beer and we can watch here). I have to say a good portion of the useless video is my fault.... I was doing too much talking and not paying attention to filming (which was mostly shit like you teetering for 20+ minutes). I don't know about you.... but that is boring. Forward progress is the shit people are crying for! I sucked at video capture this time around. Sorry.
