Well I am a man of few words. But, I had a great time quality time with my boy. I have lots of new rock rash under the Jeep. That sound while turning brad, is my steering damper got smashed when I slid into that rock where I got STUCK. Got my first dent where I need rock rails. I got stuck twice, and so did brad so I wasn't a total looser on the trail :thankyou: Runs with fewer trucks has more fluid motion. Ryan did better than me I think even without lockers. GJ the ghost of Christmas past I hear, rode up :salute: Think I am ready for the hammers, who wants to sponsor me! :lol3:

Oh man... sorry your stabilizer shock got it. At least its an easy, inexpensive fix.

I had a blast. Thanks for putting this together Phillip.

Although... I won't weigh in til Ryan makes a report.... and hopefully, he's a man of more words. Nothing to worry about.... Ryan's a talker.

And no one's getting away from that.... if you aren't getting stuck, your not trying hard enough!

Those are my exact first "scars" too. I learned that I needed rock rails by getting a dent :)
and I smashed my steering stabilizer like a used can of beer. Brad recommended a relocation kit, which I bought.... but won't go on with my lift kit... It uses the same holes.

Alright... here's my report... as I always say, short story long...

GO:

This is my first 'REAL' off road trip... I don't count Pismo or Gorman (since I never saw anything I hard when I've been to Gorman, except some of the crazy stuff in the training area).

Barely up the trail, I get stuck, have to get pulled... twice throughout the day (If I remember right). But, as I got more and more experience and confidence I was making it through nicely. Had a few spots where I used the guys as spotters.

After GJ parked his rig, he rode with me for a bit, asked me which lines I would take, then tell me if it's doable or not... after awhile, he said "You decide, try it, find out... that's how you learn)... and I did pretty well for myself.

On the way back down from the top, I was able to make it through everything without getting the strap... only got semi stuck like twice, and was able to wiggle out of it... :celebrate:

My carnage =

Very slight rear diff leak... it was still completely full when I got home (going to replace the gasket tomorrow)

Dropped onto my bumper pretty hard and bent it... but nothing special

Pretty good bash on my control arm bracket

Exhaust bashed again... need to cut it soon

I also lost my steering stabilizer like Phillip :banghead: Nothing too expensive or hard to replace... time to get the relocation kit.

Whoever installed the towing electrical plug in the front of my jeep is a retard... seriously does this look like a good spot to run wire?!? put it under the frame?! :banghead:

And the kicker?! this is the only thing I didn't like about the River Raider Offroad Skid System when I installed it... and as you can see... (as Brad predicted) it DOES hit the trans pan when a big force is applied!!!

I think that is about all you guys want to read... but, I had a blast, earned my IOR Badges today... and did it on a mostly stock JK with 1 3/4" Lift and 33's WITHOUT Lockers :wings:

End of the Run photo:

Yeah... I suck! I attempt to keep my adult talk to a minimum, but sometimes it slips and I think of it too late. :banghead:

Loved your kid.... he is very cool! Hope to see both you and him on the trail more often!
Brad recommended a relocation kit, which I bought.... but won't go on with my lift kit... It uses the same holes.
Let's take a look at that sometime soon... we might be able to make it work. Did you get the Woods kit or something else?
Alright... here's my report... as I always say, short story long...

Ryan... you did amazing, as did Phillip. GJ.... not so much, giving up his ride at the beginning of the trail?!?! I still love him like a sister, but come on! Okay... okay... GJ was hurting. He did get smashed on his bike a month or so ago.... so I will give him a SLIGHT break.

GJ.... get your shit together man!! :bleh:

Not too much damage.... at least not any of the bad kind (Phillip too). The diff cover is an easy fix. I actually went to one of those high end gaskets.... works great, clean, and reusable. But, as I related last night... the RTV is good enough.

I did appreciate that you tried to keep the sailor talk to a minimum :Thumb:

You know.... he called me out right off the bat. I must have a nice ass or something for him to switch Army to Navy.

So... my report (very basic):

This was a great run.

We started off on the wrong foot. Someone showed up at the meeting point 20 minutes late and with no gas (this was the final reason for parking the heep). So once the late guy got his coffee, he screwed around for a while putting all kinds of girly shit inside (???) and we got rolling. It would have been okay, but Ryan couldn't get the little hot girl's number (serving him, then asking all about his Jeep and wheeling (FLIRTING!)).

Once at the trail we got going.... Ryan was having lots of issues at first, but as the day went along, he started to shine. Even picking very decent lines by the end of the day. Phillip also did great. While Philip did have a locker, the JK is a much better platform to start off with than the YJ.... so that is why I think you felt Ryan was doing better... he's just wider, longer, flexier, and taller to begin with... and all of those count. Everyone gets stuck... so no worries. Phillip, if you're like Ryan and can admit it, you'll soon be telling everyone that you like taking the strap (on) and enjoy it most when you get it from the rear (I got that right, right?). :stirPot:

GJ wasn't feeling good and had no gas, so that is why he parked and did the ride along. I did see him wheel for ten minutes, so apparently he can do it? Although, I might have been drunk.... so maybe I was imagining it? :stirPot:

BC109 seemed to have gotten get a little rougher since the last time I was out, but I still think the washouts have gotten too washed out and the trail is pretty easy now, with fewer and fewer extra credit lines available. More areas were closed off and now all the signs out there say NO SHOOTING. Fucking Sierra Club Lackeys.

It was nice getting Ryan and Phillip a little more experience and confidence. They both had a great time on the trail and both killed it! GJ was actually seen driving his rig on something other than pavement (although, the dirt he was on was smoother than most California freeways :thefinger:). I had a great time as always... nothing better than getting out of the city, playing with friends (new and old), and assessing the broken shit and how bad my wallet is going to hurt afterwards.

I took some video, but haven't had time to run through it... soon.

I can't post pictures to this forum. I bent my driver side stock bumpett up and to the right it pulled the frame out a bit where it mounts. My rear drive line at the U-joint is ate up a bit from grinding a rock when I got stuck. Gas tank skid has two good size dents I need to pound out. The oil pan, muffler, leafs and U-bolts, belly pan, and leaf mouts are gouged. Nothing unusual when your having fun! The only thing that needs fixing right away is the steering stabilizer. The wife wasn't even sore about it she just said ok we can do it tomorrow

So, after driving the jeep to home depot Monday night, I realized there were a lot bigger problems then the ones I posted above.

Here's a better picture of my busted steering stabilizer, already got a new one.

My tie rod bar is on the top... B-Rad had a donor for me.... can anyone tell me what is wrong here?
 :dontknow:

After directly replacing the bars (tie rods intact) I did a quick measurement via tape measure and it seemed to be fairly close... so I took it for a quick drive around the block... No noise, no shimmy, nothing... so I went for a quick drive and got it up to 85mph... no shimmy/noise/etc.

This was all without the new stabilizer installed...

THANKS TO BRAD... I can make it to Big Bear this weekend!!!!
