Update

Postby h2osensei » October 3rd, 2011, 11:15 pm

Hey everyone. Sorry I haven't posted sooner, but been working on the logistics of getting my wreck back to Ventura.

It was a pretty nasty roll... the first wheel slid off the road and basically took the rest of the Jeep with it. Once that was in motion, the steep hill did the rest . I knew I was going over and there wasn't a damn thing I could do to stop it, so I held onto the steering wheel and enjoyed the ride. I counted upside down about 5 or 6 times. The Jeep came to a stop and landed on it's feet on a pretty steep incline. The motor was still running, so I shut it off and climbed out. The first thing I thought was my dog. My little Chihuahua "Cujo" was chilling in the back and was ejected out of the Jeep. I stated frantically looking for the dog and found him 20 minutes later, hiding under a bush (I could swear he flipped me off), but he was unscathed. I didn't have a scratch on me, but the rig looked pretty jacked up.

Next morning, I called DD and he said: Let me get a crew together and we'll come get 'ya. I tried to explain how bad it was, and he said "no problem, we'll have you out before dark". I can't even tell you the relief I felt to hear someone saying that so confidently !

A couple of hours later, I met up with the crew (Desert Dog, Casaintsfan, TJe and his lovely wife) and we made our way to the wreck. They came up with a game plan and a couple of hours later it was back on the trail. As DD explained, we used his winch, hooked up to my winch, drove the wreck some of the time and little by little we kicked that ditches ass... I also want to mention that there was another crew coming up the hill and they provided a side strap in the beginning, so we wouldn't go rolling down again. His name was Mel and I forget his company, but he manufactures performance parts for Jeeps. Cool dude and his crew.

Once the Jeep was back on the trail, we put three tires back on the bead and installed the rear coil spring, which had flown off. When we were ready to roll, I kicked out a hole in the windshield (it's not as easy as it looks in the movies) and off we were. My injured ride finished on it's own power and drove it all the way to I-5.

My initial assessment is that the frame and drivetrain seem fine. I think a bracket busted off the rear suspension and maybe the rear axle might have issues. TJe was following me back and said the rear was real wobbly. A lot of body damage, so we'll see what happens.... I'm waiting for the insurance to call me, so I'll keep everyone posted.

Also want to give a HUGE thanks to Lori, who provided moral support, drove me around and helped me make this happen.. AND gave me a Cujo a ride home

Who is this Brad person you speak of? Sounds like a really cool guy that doesn't follow the crowd (into the rape shack).

I'll hopefully get some pics of Lorenzo's rug tonight, now that it's been tagged IOR.

First off I am glad everyone was ok!! And the awesome ICE Team from Bako was able to get you out of there in a reasonable amount of time.

Hopefully all works out with your insurance. Hope to see you at the Meeting.

Hi Everyone,

FIrst of all I just want to say that I am happy Lorenzo and his dog are ok and that he got the Jeep out of there.

I'm also lucky to be alive due to the jeep roll bar and wearing a seat belt. Reading everything, looking at the pictures and that youtube video are helping me come to grips with the fact I almost died Sunday morning.

However I was a little taken aback when I read the thread here.

There are some parts missing to this story, mainly that there was another human passenger in that Jeep (me) and his wife (passenger in Lorie's jeep who watched the entire thing) were also on this trip.

Anyway, I am in no way, shape or form trying to come here to stir up shit.

I was just surprised that the rollover was explained here and at jk-owners leaving out two people who were there, who experienced and witnessed it, and also helped a great deal picking up debris, risking further injury by looking for Cujo under where the jeep stopped rolling and basically as complete strangers who didn't go postal over what happened.

Lorenzo, give me a call. You have my number. I Facebook friend'ed you and you accepted but then deleted me. Not sure what's up with that but would like to see how you are doing.

Lorie, if you are reading this, thanks for getting us up the rest of Miller and back to camp.

Tim,

I was a bit surprised to read your post. Jeep or no Jeep, new friends or old ones, but ESPECIALLY fellow jeepers, you just don't leave like that after something like this happens. Lorenzo stated he could really use your spare and he'd return it to you. You didnt offer it up and he didnt feel like asking twice. We could have used your help with the recovery....and cleaning up camp. We were throwing trash away that wsan't ours. We had to load up all of Lorenzo's stuff in the back of my Jeep. So between all my shit and his, a trash bag was the Last thing we should of had to worry about. You didn't offer any help and what I do remember is you saying how you couldn't wait to go home and take a shower....do you understand how insensitive that made you look and how we felt???? We knew we had a LONG freakin day and night ahead of us...it would have been nice to have our fellow Jeepers stick with us. Let's just say it was disappointing. I'd never expect that from someone I was wheeling with.

Shit happens. You're in a sport that requires some balls. You also need to be there for others. Try to look at it from another perspective. That's all I'm sayin'.

And your welcome for the ride up the rest of Miller. I'd do it again if I had to.

Are you for real? You have a lot of nerve.

First of all we were in a fucking major accident. I had pieces of debris in my eye and I didn't know what else was wrong with me after that fall.

Lorenzo asked me for my spare. We also discussed that his Jeep was missing a spring and most likely not drivable considering the condition. I advised him NOT to drive the Jeep out of there since the condition was unknown.

We already helped with the recovery IMMEDIATELY AFTER ROLLING DOWN THE HILL. I helped Lorenzo bring his belongings up that hill right after the accident. I helped him look for his dog putting my life in additional risk looking under the immediate area of the jeep. I spoke to your boyfriend JP on the phone and calmly answered all his technical questions while all you were doing was asking repeatedly "what's JP saying, what's JP saying"

Oh and my wife and I helped YOU come to your senses when you had the absolute stupid idea to ask for a FUCKING BEER right after we got back on the trail while you were driving us out of the area. (how much alcohol tequila/beer was consumed that night???...while wheeling, while DRIVING??)

My wife and I made sure we cleaned up OUR TRASH before we left. You two were there when we were picking up and NOT ONCE did you ask for additional help, for us to stick around, NOTHING.

I never mentioned anything about wanting to go home and take a shower. I told you at the gas station after we got back into town after the roll that I didn't want to talk to anyone but my wife and that I was tired and we were crashing at the camp site.

Do you understand how INSENSITIVE you were asking for a god damned beer after we rolled off the cliff WHILE YOU were negotiating the rest of miller?

We didn't know you or Lorenzo at all. WE trusted both of you with our lives as first time jeepers after having a great Saturday hanging out.

YOU were the one pressuring me to bring my Jeep up Miller AT NIGHT as a first time Jeeper. You were the one that couldn't stop talking about "oh this happens, and jeep roll off miller all the time"

You need to grow up and get a grip on reality lady.

Alright guys, I think this goes without saying... please leave the name calling and complaining for face to face conversations. If there is beef... deal with it like adults and talk. Don't clutter the forum with it please. We are here to make friends, have fun and go on runs.

Tim, Thanks for the info, I somehow remember reading somewhere that there was a passenger and others on the trail... I'm glad you're ok as well. And as you know, you're more than welcome and actually would be appreciated to share your perpective/experience, etc.

Basically what matters is that everyone is ok... we (those who were not around for the incident or recovery) are interested in a complete story... but again, that all comes from perspective.

Guys, I'm not a fan of airing dirty laundry in public. This is the reason I don't belong to too many forums. These are not conversations that belong on a public forum.

I don't like putting anyone on blast. It's just not cool.

Tim, I didn't purposely exclude you from my story. I was just giving a quick recap.

Thank you for helping my find Cujo and everything else that you guys did.

When I started both threads, I did so from the perspective of my involvement - the recovery. I am not some investigative journalist that will track down witnesses I don't know so they can get the credit they think they deserve. We were called out there to do a recovery, we got shit done and reported nothing more or less. I am thankful that you did not get hurt, that was a scary event for sure.

Its good that you came here and told your story, which was very interesting and informative, but the last part is a little confusing? I hope I'm just misinterpreting that you are a little miffed because attention wasn't directed at you

Wow, nobody told us there was another passenger!!! :suprise: I am glad all of you and your wife are ok!!

Do you and your wife normally wheel or was this a first time trip? I am going to assume you are from the Ventura area, you are more than welcome to our Meet & Greet if you are interested in more wheeling and want to learn more.

My only response to that is a lot of that is fabricated and not on mark.

I hope I'm just misinterpreting that you are a little miffed because attention wasn't directed at you
Thanks. I PM'ed you over at the other jeep board.

I own an SVT Raptor and my wife and I have been safely wheeling that with a group for almost two years out in Anza.

This was a first time jeep trip. I've only been a jeep owner for 2 weeks. That also explains why I didn't want to run my rig on some/most of the trails this weekend.

Since you are publicly questioning my integrity, please refute my statements.

Remember my wife was sitting right next to you the entire ride up in your Jeep and standing right next to you on the trailside during and after all of this and she was 100% sober.

I did not come here to start shit, but I will be damned to have you accuse my wife or I on public message board of being slobs or abandoning you at a campsite after you were able bodied and driving around and already arranged to have an expert crew come in and extract the vehicle.

As most of you voted for it, we do not censor info on this forum.

This was getting a little out of hand and I was asked to delete the thread because of it.

We decided to lock the thread to to keep this from getting any worse.
