Need help with aftermarket parts.

Postby Dirty LJ » January 12th, 2012, 1:22 pm

My dad just bought a 2012 Jeep JK.

He is looking to add aftermarket exhaust and intake, I am not as familiar with the JK's, what should he go with?

The only problem is the 2012 has the new motor, totally different than the old 3.8 you'll be chartering new waters here.

No muffler sounds ok. Here's a clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDncd8_i ... UGn_DHq6E=

Saw Mcgee149 ('12 JK) randomly on the streets, and he's running that setup and it sounded better than that clip.

I'm confused. Way of Gay? Mall cralwer forums? Did he ever do anything to you guys? Do you think he's a poser? They do some great trips including Moab, Rubicon, Dusy-Ershim and up into Colorado. And, he has the best off-road videos on youtube. Professionally edited, straight to the good parts and usually with a nice soundtrack that doesn't cover up engine sounds. I'd love to be able to make videos like he's got.

Back on topic: I have a 2012 White Rubicon 2 door with a custom exhaust on it. Pretty similar to Casey. What I did is I went to Bob's muffler on 21st st. in Old Town and had them build me a cat back exhaust. I had them upsize the pipe by 1/4 inch and use a Magnaflow 5x7x13 oval muffler (if I recall correctly) placed where the stock resonator fits, then goes above the rear axle, curves down and dumps out above the axle to keep it out of harm's way. It was pretty cheap too... something like $225 and it shaves 30 lbs of weight by getting rid of the big transversely mounted muffler and tail pipe.

I tried the 'take the rear muffler off' method, but didn't like it because it was too raspy, annoying at freeway speeds and likely to get you pulled over. Also, having a resonator and not a muffler cancels frequencies that make up the majority of your engine's exhaust note, but it isn't tuned for the higer and lower frequencies. The result is that you get a "tinny" sound from the higher harmonics that aren't getting cancelled and a woof-woof-woof sound from the lower frequenices that aren't getting cancelled. Having a real muffler cancels all of the frequencies equally and makes for a much more pleasant engine note.

So, you are still drinking the Kool-Aid?

Really!?!?!?

An IOR member that is still got his tongue wrapped around the great North Korean Nazi's ball sack?

Weird, I thought that man he is married to would get pretty pissed off... hmm, what do I know, maybe WOG cut his balls off and made him half a girl?

Anyhow.... you're new, so I'll be gentle. The guy you are defending there is exactly the opposite of what IOR is about.... I mean 180 degrees different. The videos you are fond of are promotional videos bought and paid for by his sponsors. Of course they are professional, the people selling you parts want their stuff to look good and the have a shill here doing all the work under the guise of just some guy that likes Jeeps. Of course, that is total bullshit, all WOG is into it for is to turn a buck.

If you are interested in seeing some really good videos, check out our own Desert Dog's creations. Not only is the wheeling real and video great, the people wheeling are your friends in Bakersfield (and others, in the club!).

EDIT: your questions.... yes, yes, yes, and hell yes!

So he's making it into a profitable business. It's the American way to be an entrepeneur. Is that hurting you or me or Infectious Offroad? I do think of his site as being commercialized and shooting for a national audience, where this is a local club forum. But, there are benefits to having a mass audience. If I ask a question on this forum like "are the brakes on the 2012 rubicon the same as other JK years and what 15 inch wheels will fit over them?" I may not get any responses. Even after weeks. If I ask on the JK forum I'll get answers the same day from other people in other parts of the country that have already done the install. And sure, there are people who have Jeeps that use them as mall crawlers that go on the forums, but most people that use their Jeep like that don't even know that these types of forums exist, let alone actually post to them.

If it wasn't him, making a commercialized Jeep enthusiast web site, it would be someone else that's currently waiting in line for that opportunity to open up. I'm actually glad that he has commercialized his web site. Having that money to work with allows him to have a slickly packaged website and catchy videos. That commercialized 'bling' is what brings thousands of users to a single place to share information. Which is exactly what the internet is about.

I have seen Chris's videos and they are good. I wasn't implying that they're not. They're way better than anything I can make. But, I wasn't comparing Wayalife's videos to anyone. The point that I was getting at is that with the large number of people in the OC/LA area, they have huge rally's that are a spectacle to see on video on that with that extra cash to work with, the videos are prosfessionally done.

And lastly, I was polite and respectful in in my original comment and my response to you. I am an adult. Me being new here or not is no excuse for you to be an asshole to me. Since you are promoting Desert Dog's creations, does that mean you have your tongue wrapped around his ball sack? Not cool man.

Man, if Chris would let me wrap my tongue....

Using your example, I hope you are happy with one brand of brakes, because your favorite entrepreneur is famous for censoring any brand that doesn't line his pockets. Oh yeah.... fall into that trap and you'll never post there again. Not because you are sore they deleted all your posts and told you you were a little faggot, but because they banned you for life for the simple fact that you attempted free thought after signing his agreement that you would not ever attempt that kind of thing again.

I am not trying to be rude to you, but can't figure out a way to tell you, in any other fashion, that you are getting pumped hard, day in and day out. It might be easier if you didn't have that big smile on your face.

So do me a favor.... show your love and get WOG in a heart shaped tattoo. :stirPot:

One day.... one day, you'll see the light and trust that I will welcome you out of North Korea with open arms. Until then :thefinger:

Yes, yes you are trying to be rude. I don't know you. I don't believe we've ever met. You are being rude and disrepectful to me for no reason. Since you are doing that to me, I can only assume that Wayalife has never done anything to you either, yet you bash him relentlessly.

As far as you being banned from from JK forums, I would venture to bet it is because of how you speak, not because of the alternative ideas you post. If I was a forum moderator I wouldn't tolerate a user having the rude and aggressive behavior that you are displaying. For you to get banned, then carry that animosity with you and make enemies with anyone who says anything positive about him is ludicrous.

Anyways... Apologies to GJ for getting so off topic. I'm out.

You are looking at this wrong. Do me a favor and I will buy you a beer when I see you.

Go over to your buddies website and ask a question about Poly Performance. Maybe something like: "Hey I was over on JKO and saw a bunch of talk about Poly Performance lift kits. I was previously thinking I'd like to get a kit from EVO, but the Poly stuff looks like it might be better quality at a better price. Opinions?"

Trust me, after a brown shirt (Project Gay-K moderator) gets a hold of that post (likely within minutes), you will agree with me (please tell us the story) or I will complete the six pack, brand is your choice (because I believe in choice).

Phimosis,
Check out the link below, over 434 pages of ex JK Forum members who were banned for as simply asking a question or offering a opinion. In some cases banned for blowing off steam on another Forum about JK Forum. Another thing, those that are banned are not deleted from the forum, their board names live on for the head count.

But check it out and you will understand. :Thumb:

P.S. Trust me when I say one thing.... eventually, you will see the light and concede that I, and what seems to be a million others, can't be wrong! Ultimately, this is why I'll never own a JK. I'd rather build my own 4 door from a TJ.

Ok... So I'd need 2 of them to do it. It would have quite a stretch on it. Compared to the commando I think it'd be pretty easy, but in all honesty... I'd just go LJ and leave it 2 door.
