A selectable locker on the front is the way to go, you can turn it off when you need to make sharp turns. I had a Detroit on the front of my CJ and i hated it. In my JK I hardely ever use the front locker.

I had a Detroit in the front of my LJ and didn't have any problems with it. As long as you are not in 4wd you shouldn't notice a problem with it.

Oldmanhurt, are you having this problem in 2 wheel drive? My CJ was fine in 2 wheel drive, in 4 wheel drive it was hard to turn.

Good luck with that, but it won't help. To run a none selectable locker in the front with out any ill effects on your steering you'll need selectable hubs, like on the CJs..

there should be enough play in these lockers to provide for proper turning curt. plenty of guys run nonselectables in the front with no problem turning. you just can't be erratic and turn too quickly with them. If this locker doesn't work out you might be able to sell it and buy an ausie locker. They're supposed to have a little less bite to them compared to a lockright, and supposedly last longer. They're also cheaper.

Sounds like some kind of installation error.
I have an Aussie Locker (lunch box locker) in my non-disconnect dana 30 in my XJ, which is exactly what you have in your TJ. You can feel it hardcore in 4x4 on a hard surface, but the only time I notice mine in 2wd is when making a u-turn, and even then you cant feel it, you can just hear it thunking and ratcheting.
If you need help gimme a call I installed my locker and have installed several other lunch box lockers, I know what its supposed to feel like, and maybe I can help.

I had the same issue with my lockrite when first installed.
We forgot to install the thrust washers on either side of the locker.
there was enough play in it, that it destroyed the small springs in a month.
Once we installed the thrust washers, it worked fine in 2wd. No more hard turns and grabbing in corners at speed.
I never know it is installed now. Works great off-road too.
