2012 Rubicon Run

This is where to post runs that are going to happen!

Fuel and beer work, but I wonder.... would bringing VD and offering HIV to people work better or worse? I guess... it all depends on if they know those botches have incurable disease.... you know, they are INFECTED!

So... okay, here is my deal. I had to cut my trip (pre-run) short for various reasons... so I am down for this trip for sure (unless those guys make the Fordyce trip the same weekend). While I didn't have a bad time... cutting things short screwed me of quality time on the Con... I need that! :)

I will be going up a day or two early to spend some time with the locals. I met a really nice couple that live in Placerville, plus some friends from JKO that I plan on spending some time with. Anyone that wants to come up early, let me know.... I might even run the trail early to find us a kick ass camping spot to party at. Buck or the Springs is my question?

2012 Rubicon Run

Postby Zak.Taylor » June 26th, 2012, 7:56 pm

Could a jk unlimited on 35's with stock diffs (LSD rear, open front) make it?
2013 Jeep JKUR on 35" Kanati Trail Hogs, 2.5" Rough Country coil lift
2006 Yamaha Rhino 660 on 28" BajaCross, with winch.
2008 Dodge Ram 2500 6.7 CTD leveled with 20's and 35's.
Some boom toys here and there too.

With LOTS of winching...

I don't think this person would be the happiest on the trail and might have zero friends by the end of the trip, but it could be done this year.

After they modified the trail last year to make it easier, lots of 4-doors on 35s made it, including Migreenbuggy's in this club. But, they were all fully locked with a beefed up front axle (sleeves, gussets, CM shafts). A 4-door on such small tires will need lockers for sure, as the trail is more short-wheelbase friendly.

And remember, in the rocks:
limited slip = open diff

Trail seemed harder than last year, but not nearly as bad as the year prior. They have done a lot to make certain parts a highway..... right now the last waterfall on Cadillac is petty hard.... much harder than in the past, but the tight spot where you've got the cliff edge and have to climb the wall on the other side is widened and has a giant rock to rest your rockers on.... no more piss stains in my shorts from that spot. I saw a ton of concrete and rebar near the top.... the Springs new host told me that they had a work party this week and would "fix" the issues there.... I took that to be, "make it easy for the fucking jambo fagots!"

Thinking about it..... we're going in after the Jambo (two weeks I believe), the trail should be a cake walk..... MUCH easier than when I was there last week. There just will not be enough time to fuck the trail back up. With that in mind.... your sedan with no lockers will probably be fine. Still... you'll use your winch a ton and probably drag a bit.

2012 Rubicon Run

Postby Zak.Taylor » June 27th, 2012, 5:36 pm

I have no winch, but I wish we could go. I'm getting an 8.8 for the yj this week, the gears may match! Which will hold off the gear change til I can afford 4.88's

No lockers on mfdd's bobber but it'd be tough to fit...anywhere....8 feet wide....you'd have to grease the sides of the trail. Lol

2012 Rubicon Run

Postby Zak.Taylor » June 28th, 2012, 11:05 am

Mogs are a whole lot lighter though. And narrower I'm sure. I really want one. The 4 door diesel though, so 15-20k at least.

What's needed on the trail? Figure byob and food, clothes for all weather and camping gear, portable shitter and spill kit, recovery gear, what else... Also do we meet here In btown before we go up, or somewhere closer to the trail? Is the 16th just a travel day... I need some details, I got my bro flying in from AZ late on the 15th. Also curious what time we would be heading up on the 16th..

All good questions on some more damn info!! LARRY..... where the fuck are you and more info for your run??

As for your supplies.... they look good to me. I'd say the worse offending issues members come to the trail with are no proper pull points, no recovery gear of their own, and no food/water. Make sure you got a spare as well.

Meeting.... up to Larry, but you guys might have to start figuring that out if he remains MIA for too much longer. I don't think anyone else is coming from the Oxnard area and I will likely go up a day early to visit some locals. Anyone that wants to come up a day early, have some dinner, then hit the trail early, let me know. Once we pin down Larry, we'll discuss camping locations and I'll go in and reserve the spot for the club.

Not sure if we want to Buck or the Springs? The end of the springs has some really nice spots, but it's all pay down there. Also, the slab above the box could be a fun place to camp.... there will be no quiet time there as it does seem to rock out all night long (not that any part of the trail is safe from that on a weekend).

Yep.... the skeeters are bad. Good call on the 100% deet!

I have to admit, they weren't bad this year.... was it the cold (over night temps in the 30s), the wind (gusts of 30mph+), or just the fact of what this pic shows.....

Hmm.... who knows where that is? HINT: it's a bowl and it's normally filled with a soupy material. Yeah.... it is DRY!!

Speaking of DRY.... another smart item would be a bandanna or something of the sort to cut down the dust inhalations!
